A lot of new pieces on defense. Once they mesh and all get on the same page they'll be better on D maybe not top ten but good enough to dominate that crappy division. Hope I'm wrong but I expect some early growing pains for our D because of all the new players that don't know the system.

I don't know. That defense looked really really bad. You think this has anything to do with the trading away of draft picks? You really lose those JAG guys that can come in and play competent in a pinch. It just seemed like that defense had no depth at all after a couple injuries.

I had no problem going with proven talent over prospects. With Brady at QB the Pats are an all in team every year so I see why they operate the way they do. Cooks is a weapon that will contribute, the Ealy trade set them back. I thought that was a good trade at first for them because Ealy was a stud with Carolina.  But i don't know what happened with that situation. Like I said they may not be a top ten D but I think they will improve enough to be in the SB conversation. History has proven you can never sleep on the Patriots.

Really hoping for a year of a crappy Pats defense just to see how Brady truly does.

3 of Brady's 5 SB winning teams had either the #1 or #2 scoring defense. The other 2 times he won they had the #6 and #8 scoring defense. Brady is and has been a great QB, but the real gift for him was having a coach like Belichick who has made damn sure his QB had a defense to support him.

Very informative post as I did not know that all five of Brady's SB winning teams had top 10 defenses.

I credit that history to coach and GM Belichick, but man he has his work cut out for him this season if last night is any indication.

Interestingly, the last time ARod had a top 10 D to work with was in 2010. Here's hoping this year's GB D is a top 10 unit and the season ends just like it did in 2010.

I hope we adequately acknowledged the predictability of Jones signing with the Vikings at the time.

I also hope the people who expressed the opinion that Datone Jones was going to have a great year with the Vikings (because Dom Capers was completely misusing him like he does all Packers defenders) were suitably mocked.
