I mean, I think we can all agree this is shady, at a minimum. However, good luck trying to prove any type of scheming on the part of the Ravens. Grant can take this to the players union if he so desires, but only way I see that happening is if the only contract he can get after this is one at a significant discount compared to what the Ravens had offered.

So we can schedule the hearing date then?   A significant discount is lock lol.

The obvious sequence of events were something like this:

- Guys like Joe Cool and T-Sizzle were throwing a party (they were the hosts since they have nicknames)

- Bisciotti and Oz were invited

- The two formed a team, lost at beer pong to obviously superior athletes (they almost won one round but on Flacco’s last miss, there was an interference so he got a re-do), got wasted

- Immediately went to team building/philosophizing because that’s what wasted people do

- Got Grant going with this contract

- Took multiple days to sober up and only now realize what a bad deal that would’ve been

The writing’s on the wall, guys.

No team has been worse at evaluating the WR position than Baltimore over the last two decades. Even the veterans they bring in are, at best, mediocre.

We have definitely been the worst at drafting and devloping WRs.

The ones we bring in have likely outplayed normal return for veteran WRs. Given we have only gotten guys past their prime to modest to medium contracts: Derrik Mason, Boldin, Steve Smith, Wallace, even Jacoby Jones have all provided as much or more value as could have been expected. The biggest non-draft bust WR addition we've ever had might be Maclin who we ended up burning 5M total on. So, more hit than miss really, and not a single major bust since we've never added one at WR1 cost.

And to be fair, Maclin was the only guy left in FA with any hope of being a WR1, when he got released by KC.  It's hard to knock Ozzie for that move.

As you pointed out, the real issue is the draft.   And TBH, full disclosure, we all knew Perriman was going to take time.  I thought he'd be better than this.  Most informed fans thought he'd be better than this.  So it's not like Ozzie reached there...or showed unnatural love for yet another 'Bama player.

But yeah, it hurts when your 1st round pick busts like that, or guys keep busting over and over from the draft at that position.  Believe me, our team knows that firsthand with QB (Paxton Lynch instead of DL Chris Jones, that was our white whale...sigh).

And where does that belief come from, exactly? Besides complete and utter speculation

Grant played all 16 games for 4 years, was never on the injury report for an ankle injury, and looked fine and injury-free in the last game/play of the season, which Schefter cited as the source of the injury. Then once deal is nulled, Crabtree visits the Ravens.

Obviously all those things are speculative, but they're not nothing.

Still doesn't mean the Ravens violated anything, though. It just looks shady, that's all.

And the interview is announced before the failed physical, too.

To be clear, even if the Ravens did this to get out of the contract, and there is no real injury - it's very much a matter of debate if they would get punished.  The burden of proof seems very high in a CBA-related grievance (props to @mse326 for walking it through).

If it's the case, this wouldn't be the first time a team's likely done this - Roger Saffold was signed by the Raiders in 2014, then OAK backed out because of shoulder concerns.   The Rams immediately re-signed him, and for more $.   Zero concerns on their part, and having been the prior team, looked really shady.  Now, the big diff - Grant isn't getting re-signed by WAS here for the same $.  Or any other team, in all likelihood, for anywhere near the same $.  This is why people keep talking grievance.
