big_palooka
That just shows you how big of a crapshoot the draft is. 15 players didn't have their 5th year options picked up. 4 players completely out of the league already.

If that is their plan then they can spend more on this next wave of free agents. They don't have to hold back especially if the thought process is they will be making cap space later. I also already mentioned earlier they could actually lower Jacobs cap number this year if he gets a new deal as well. Thanks for clarifying. And yes It’s looking like Renfrow is on the way out. Sure, moving Renfrow now saves cap space later and they already have his replacements lined up so there would be actual cap space savings (versus say trading him and saving money but then spending it on his replacement), but I don’t think it has any affect on Jacobs. The FO has demonstrated they will be spending money on the offense and what’s left does to the defense. I don’t think getting rid of Renfrow or anyone else factors even moderately into the decision to extend Jacobs.

The misunderstanding comes with Okudah, whose still in the league (was just traded to Atlanta) but had a “N/A” on the list because he’s not eligible for a 5th year extension because of something to do with his drafting team (Detroit) paying part of this years salary. I could be wrong on the details though.

It’ll be interesting to see the exact numbers. I’ve seen both “maximum of” 6 and 8 million. So it could be 6m with 2M of incentives or it could be something like 4M salary/signing bonus/etc with incentives up to 6m. I’d probably agree with you that we should have resigned ya-sin. I could also see how it’s just a little too expensive. But we could really use a starting CB and it’s a reasonable price so I’m leaning towards saying we should have resigned him at that price if it was a possibility.
