Can’t imagine the time you put into these and I know how much running this mock matters to you. You know I got your back whenever you are ready to run a mock......even if you are a Giants’ fan.

ill probably run a post FA mock in late March. I can’t do all the complex free agency stuff but I’ll run a draft

Certainly bummed, but like everyone else has said...completely and totally understand.  Really, the disappointment just stems from how epic all that work you do was shaping up to be...and gutted that it didn't seem to work out.  Heck, i was pretty intimidated about just using the workbooks...much less trying to actually create and link them all together properly like that.  xD

I'll certainly be around, keeping a lookout for this detailed monster in the future.  Or if something changes and there's a more simplified post-FA version or something.  And in the meantime, i'll be looking to jump into something a bit more streamlined and simplified as a draft-only wherever it might pop up.

Thanks man.  I'll have it figured out for sure next year.  I'm hoping to put something together for a much more simplified mock just so we have another one.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Would love to help if you do a small version. Could be even by just updating the picks in the thread.

Alright guys, so @Counselor and I are trying to figure out a way to provide you guys with a mock draft.  This mock won't be close to the level of mocks that tcmd is known for but this forum definitely needs another mock before the draft kicks off.

I'm leaning toward doing something that is mainly focused on the nfl draft and trading players but still has a free agency.  I'm looking for ideas so if you've got any please jump in, we're also going to be looking for members that can help update the master workbook and perhaps even provide a non-bias committee for reviewing extensions, restructures and trades.

Enough recruiting...down to the details.

I'd like us to be able to include a free agency in this mock, but obviously it can't be as large as the previous versions.

Here are some ideas I'm kicking around.

  • We still provide a blind bidding free agency, but only single year contracts...no multi year deals.
  • Bidding will still be done using phases in which the highest offer is awarded the player.
  • RFA and ERFA players will be added to your roster at no charge.  You can trade these players or release them, trading them the new team is charged the vet min.
  • You are allowed to retain one resign (UFA) at their previous years salary, but not less than the vet min.
  • The goal is to get the best 53 man roster but you can exceed that but not over a 90 man roster.
  • No top 51 calculation, so the math is simple.

Here is where we really could use some suggestions.

There are some teams that are low on cap or in the red, so we need a way for these teams to free up salary cap without having to release or trade away their roster.  Basically, we want everyone to have fun with this.

I guess we really don't need the formulas below, if we could get enough people to commit to using a committee to determine the likelihood of a player restructuring or extending their contract but here it is.

One idea is to allow extension/restructures.  However, this needs to be simple without having to calculate multi year deals.

  • If your team contains players with a cap hit greater than or equal to the top 100 cap hits, then those players are eligible to receive a reduced salary.  If they have a contract length less than or equal to 2 years, then you extend them.  If they have a contract length greater than 2 you restructure them.  Restructure takes their current cap hit and reduces it by 70%, the extension reduces it by 85%.  For example.  Eli Manning has a cap hit of  23.2 million and on the final year of his contract.  Extending his contract would change his cap hit to 19.8 million saving about 3.5 million.  Restructuring Andrew Norwell's contract of 16m would make his new cap hit 11.2 million saving a total of 4.8.
  • Teams will not have the same amount of players eligible for this is really only designed to help teams with little to no cap space free up some funds for free agency.
  • Check out this chart to see the number of restructure/ extensions a team could make as well as the money generated.
  • You'll notice that this doesn't allow every team out of the hole but I don't think it should either, I haven't looked at each roster but I'm sure every team can trim some fat by releasing deadweight.
