That actually happened to my hometown's taco truck in 2013, and I was piiiiiiiissed, because that's when I was fat and ate a lot of burritos from there for lunch (yeah, yeah, I know those are originally from California, but they're popular in Mexico too now, so bite me). Taquiera de Alberto is still there, and it's still bomb, but it hasn't been the same since ICE got Alberto. Especially the al pastor. Still got that killer salsa verde though. They say it's just jalapenos, crema, and salt, but I've tried making it at home, and they're lying.

And also you need lime juice and cilantro because its Mexican food and that goes in literally everything.

The crappy kind has tomatillos.

There's a taqueria down the street from my place (on the other side of the freeway from the In-N-Out I referenced earlier, actually) and it makes the some of the greatest pastor I ever had - the pork is so tender and juicy, just so delicious. I might need to go tomorrow for lunch.

Elky
All burger places are overrated. If I want a burger I just make my own; it's not exactly rocket science to make one. Edited February 13, 2020 by Elky

BobbyPhil1781
I've had some excellent al pastor and some terrible al pastor. The city I work in is fairly small but they have two authentic Mexican restaurants/grocery stores about half a mile from each other. Their al pastors differ so wildly. Getting back to the old burger discussion (bc I'm bored in a hotel and don't have to be to the firm for another hour+), when I first had In N Out, I thought it was great. The second and third time, I couldn't remember why I felt that way. Steak N Shake absolutely destroys them IMO. As far as chicken goes, Cains is also overrated. It's good but Chik and Zaxbys are substantially better.

Elky
Also, if you're not using cast iron, you're cooking things wrong. There's absolutely no reason to use a "nonstick" frying pan instead of cast iron. Edited February 14, 2020 by Elky

"hearty enough" I don't know what Indian restaurant you're going to where flavor isn't hearty enough - most complaints I get are that it's almost too overpowering. I'll give you the wet and mushy, to an extent. If you get into South Indian food, it tends to be different. Your chicken tikka masala and saag paneers are a wet, gloopy mess. Your masala dosa and beef biyrani isn't as gloopy. One last note - curry isn't strictly Indian food. The best curries I've had are usually Thai curries (massamun curry is arguably my favorite).
