Is he worth that? It's a no for me. Everything about this contract looks worst when he's the weakest link on the team. Unless you want to include the Kicker. People can point the blame on Shanahan all they want. They lost the Super Bowl because Jimmy was going to need to step up at some point and he folded. Shanahan put him in position to win. Anyone who has paid attention to this offense this year objectively knows he wasn't up to the challenge.

Context matters. When they traded for Jimmy G, the 49ers were flushed with cap space they needed to burn and wanted to lock him up for the short term to see what he was capable of. They had so much cap space to burn, why not front load the contract so that you can let him go later on if he disappoints? The 49ers played his contract correctly, and the 49ers had just traded for him - and they were terrible. The 49ers didn't really have any leverage to moneyball Jimmy G.

In the abstract, he isn't worth the money he was paid, but the 49ers needed a QB.

In a way similar to how we acquired Alex Smith. We needed a capable QB in the worst way and might've overpaid (trade comp/contract) but it paid dividends to get out of the cellar we were stuck in.

Agreed. Jimmy G is one of the top 10-12 QB in the NFL. They made it to a Super Bowl with him and came very close to winning.

Everyone talks about the three and out in the 4th quarter. On 2nd down he made a good read but had a ball batted down at the line of scrimmage. That put them in an pure pass situation and he didn't connect under heavy pressure. Even Tom Brady missed passes when he had a rush in his face. JG's a game manager, but he's a good one.

All the playoff Turning Point episodes are on YouTube now.

I highly recommend the Divisional round (first 25 minutes anyway for KC and Tennessee)

  • On the failed fake punt I really have to ask why the heck Buddy Howell decided to be the 3rd man to block on the line instead of becoming a lead blocker for Justin Reid.
    • It was a terrible risky call but if he slides out and engages then its an easy first down most likely, even if he just gets hit and falls down.

The bit about the Wasp call in the Super Bowl is Nick Foles level for Mahomes.

49ers fans should feel nothing but pride. From 4-12 to the Super Bowl. They have a lot of extremely talented players who should be there for years to come, with a great head coach. The defense doesn't lose Hill on 3rd and 15 and we're likely not even talking about Shanahan's mistakes in the 4th quarter. There are no guarantees in the NFL but they should at least be competitive for years and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them back in the Super Bowl next season. The only problem is it doesn't look like the Seahawks will be getting significantly worse, the Rams are sure to bounce back stronger and the Cardinals are improving too.

Kendrick Bourne #84 was wide open when JG threw deep down the middle. Wrong ball, not wrong call.

Honestly it wasn’t even the wrong ball,  it was just a bad ball.   You can’t overthrow that,  Sanders had a TD on that
