I had a horrible thought for a moment that they might be able to prise Andrew Luck out of retirement, have to purge my mind of that now!

Yeah, I'm sad about it in a 'great things always come to an end' way - but actually excited to finally move on and see what happens next. Committing to a multi-year deal could have confined us to an unsettling purgatory at this point. 

I really don't get the argument that we should have 'done right by him', it's never been the Patriots MO.

If Brady does fall off the cliff its better to be the team that let him go in free agency than be the one that had to bench and cut him. At some point you want to be able and prepare for the next 5 years and not have to build your entire team on a year-by-year basis.
