WindyCity
I think Jones is the only realistic draft option we are going to have. Way too many super needy teams ahead of us. I am cool with Jones, but if we don’t put resources into the OL after picking him Pace is a bigger idiot than we all think. Have a plan.

He has taken 2 tackles (both in round 6 or later) and 3 iOL in 6 years. I'm not sure why we'll assume he's going to change course now. Jets have two 1s and still can trade Darnold. Chicago has nothing of great value to trade and limited picks. They would have to mortgage future to get him. From Watson perspective: Watson is a bling guy and will love Miami or NY scene over Chicago. Plus: Lame duck FO that will probably be replaced next year. Cold weather in outdoor stadium with high winds. A bad O line. Limited receivers. One of highest property taxes in nation. State that has an income tax and is looking to raise it. State that is deeply in debt, that is constitutionally obligated to pay its pensions which it cannot afford, debt was made many times worse by shutting down for Covid often. A city that no longer has stability of law and order Daley regime that ruled for decades and can now be radicalized in a moment. If Bears give up future for Watson and he fails he will be at least partially blamed and his career will be tarnished.

If Pace somehow were to pull it off though then gets mad respect in my eyes...as long as he doesn't give away something ridiculous

I think this pretty much goes for any QB they get this offseason. As is the talent on offense is not good enough whether the new QB is Deshaun Watson or Mac Jones. GOGRIESE
Until Watson is actually traded they need to do everything in their power to try and acquire him. There's so many factors involved in this that it isn't cut and dry. The most obvious teams may not actually get him.

This is true but another advantage that teams like the Jets and Dolphins have over Bears aside from not only being able to offer higher picks this year but they can also offer more first rounders than Bears can in theory due to an NFL rule that you cannot trade more than 3 years ahead of picks until draft night where it then becomes a maximum of 4 years ahead. So if Bears were to make an offer today for Watson then they would only be able to offer 1st rounders from each of the next 3 years (2021, 2022 & 2023) whereas Jets and Dolphins can offer at least 4 each, not that they would ever trade that many 1sts, but theoretically because Jets have two 1sts in each of the next two drafts (4 total) and Dolphins have two 1sts this year plus another next year (3 total)....so you get the idea. Texans are really in such a bad spot right now that they need all the 1st round picks they can get in a short time in order to accelerate their rebuild. Bears don't really have much to offer them in this case. I hate to be a naysayer but Bears are 99.99% not getting him Edited January 28, 2021 by topwop1

The most Bearsian thing in the world would be to bypass a chance to draft this kid via a trade down, accumulating extra draft picks in the process, only to acquire him and his large contract 5 years later while coughing up 3 first round picks and possibly more. Oh, and the QB we did draft instead, we traded up for, burning extra draft picks, only to have him walk as a free agent. Awesome.
