The Chiefs are in the Super Bowl with 1 of 5 O-lineman starters compared to last year.

*Edit: this would be 2 if Wis starts at guard

This is very unusual.

  • VI VII VIII Dolphins 3 of 5 and 5 of 5 returning
  • VIII IX  Vikings  2 of 5 returning

Quick look at PFF grades for O-lines

  • KC averages 64.7
  • Tampa averages 76.1

If you ranked the 10 by rating, you would start with 4 Bucs before you got to a Chief.

  • Fisher would have been 3rd at 80.0

Tampa will be starting 4 of 5 guys from week 1.

KC will be starting 2 of 5 guys from week 1.

Yes Wiz looks like he’s getting the SB start so far with Wylie moving out to RT

He could be a starting lineman for 3 SB champs in 4 years. That's kinda crazy.

  • He was on his 3rd team in Philly.
  • He was on his 5th this year in Pittsburgh
  • He was not on a winning team in his first 6 years in the league.

His uncle played 13 years for the Raiders and never got to a Super Bowl.

  • His uncle's last game?  The Tuck Rule Game!
    • The uncle was 34 during Brady's first Super Bowl run.
    • The nephew will soon be 32.

Tom Brady mostly loses to the meme esque QBs in the playoffs.

2005: Jake Plumber

2006: Peyton Manning (threw 3 TDs and 7 INTs in 4 playoff games with a 70.5 passer rating.) So he was playing like a meme QB at the time.

2007: Eli Manning

2009: Joe Flacco

2010: Mark Sanchez

2011: Eli Manning

2012: Joe Flacco

2013: Peyton Manning (The one time an all-time great QB played well and beat Tom Brady in the playoffs, but that 2013 Patriots team was not very good outside Brady tbh)

2015: Zombie Peyton Manning

2017: Nick Foles

2019: Ryan Tannehill

Meanwhile he has beaten the likes of Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning 2000 times, Philip Rivers, Big Ben, McNabb, Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Mahomes himself in the playoffs.

Now I do think this is mostly just a coincidence, and that the Chiefs are probably favored to win yeah. Though if the Bucs get the job done, this will only add to the legend (outside of 2013 Manning beating one of the weaker Patriots teams I have seen)

When you said 2000 times, you meant twice, right? Because that's how many times Brady beat Peyton in the playoffs. But yeah, almost the same thing.

This is definitely concerning.

I feel like with any other QB we'd be completely SNAFU on offense with our OL issues

Andy is also really good with screens and the team speed at WR makes those screens deadly.

I still would not be surprised if a few plays get blown up by instant pressure.

A Mahomes with turf toe is still more mobile than most QBs but will he be mobile enough to make a few of those crazy plays while under pressure?

He did against the Bills. Granted they’re not as talented on the DL, but pressure is pressure and he still navigated very well against it.

For 3 of the Brady losses the home team had an actual oxygen blood level advantage

  • The Broncos are something like 17-5 at home in the playoffs.
    • That's a .773 win %
      • Brady himself at 33-11 is at .750 (20-4 at home, .833)
    • 8-8 Tebow beat a 12-4 Steelers team in Denver
  • One of those Brady losses had a center who bobbed before the snap so badly that his career ended
    • Brady got hit something like 20 times that game
    • The game still came down to a failed 2-point conversion after another Brady comeback

The guy is 33-8 in the playoffs when he can breathe normally. Its kind of intimidating.

It also took some really weird stuff for him to lose the 3 New York games.

  • The NE special teams players decided to call a fake punt from their own 37 vs the Jets
  • BJGE had an all-time lame effort play on a pick from a screen pass in that game
    • The throw looks like it was to the defender but its because law firm was supposed to be there and supposed to try to catch the ball
      • He stands still and watches it go
  • You know all about those Super Bowls

As far as Alex Smith vs Brees or Warner vs Rodgers or Luck over Smith straight up shootout, "I am the better QB today" wins over Brady?

  • Foles for sure (and only just barely)
  • Peyton Manning in the 2nd half of the AFCCG in Indy
  • Mahomes almost had him in KC but Dee Ford gonna Dee Ford
    • Mahomes was the better QB that day
  • Flacco came really close to doing that 3 times
    • He did it in 2012
    • In 2011 his WR dropped the ball
      • The defender made a late play and the WR relaxed instead of holding the ball
      • Then Billy Cundiff happened
    • In 2014 he was doing it all game until one really bad throw late
  • Eli beat him twice but it was a couple huge plays in low scoring games instead of Joe Montana style

wish the superbowl was today

can TB/NFL really do anything close to a SB media week under covid?

I imagine it's going to be done virtually.

The traditional Super Bowl week kickoff event, known originally as "Media Day" but lately as "Opening Night," will be drastically altered Monday. To begin with, there will be no media. All interviews will be done via Zoom with just nine players from each team instead of full rosters. While it is still called "Opening Night," those interviews will be conducted during the day. Fans, who in recent years were allowed to watch on site, can instead turn to NFL Network (8 p.m. ET) for "the best of the best moments and an NFL Network exclusive conversation between Super Bowl coaches and quarterbacks," according to a league  news release.
