Finally started Squid Games.. I'm through 4 or 5 episodes now and of course it's great. My only quibble,

  Reveal hidden contents

Don't understand how the cop has gotten away with this so far. He should have been spotted pretty easily from the start, and has made several blunders since. (The episode we just finished he discovered his brother was in a previous year's games). But obviously the insight into behind the scenes is crucial to the show, too

My wife says I'll end up disliking the main character more than anyone else by the end.. but so far he's my second favorite, next to Ali.

The only spoiler I knew going in was that people would start getting killed. That first game would have been shocking if I hadn't known

Watched episode 6,

Spoiler

Damn, I already didn't like Song-Woo but now I will actively root against him. I cursed at Ali when he handed over that bag of marbles.. man..

Love the old man so much, and I'm glad he made Gi-hun feel like trash for "tricking" him.

Snake neck can go straight to hell, but I actually found myself rooting for him against his buddy

The girls are the most tragic part of this show to me.. I hope she makes it though but I'm sure there's only 1 left standing and it'll be Gi-hun.

we shall see!

Started Servant. Ted Lasso gets dumber and sitcommier in season 2 but it gets creative allowances by the public because the world loves soccer.  Servant is relatively interesting so far. Ron Weasley’s American accent isn’t great. I recognized the wife from Six Feet Under, it’s remarkable how much she’s ended up looking like the mom from that show after 20 years

The wife and I watched 'Alert: Missing Persons Unit' starring Scott Caan, and it was terribad.  Just like basic storytelling isn't done very well and the "good guys" routinely are completely moronic to get put in the situations they got put in, and this was in 1 episode.

The first 10 minutes of the second episode are somehow even dumber than the entirety of the first episode.  Apparently everyone has teleportation abilities in this show too as long as they are off screen.

Apple+ Servant has my attention for sure, although I’m totally lost on what they’re going to do to make this a 4 season show after watching the first few episodes. M Night Shyamalan is the director and exec producer but there hasn’t been dialogue yet that feels like it came from Mars. I’m sure it’ll come. He always throws in some weird awkward metaphor and non sequitur that no human has ever said in the history of ever.

So yeah. If the show has longevity it’ll have to be from cast cohesiveness, so I imagine they end up liking each other. The servant is being painted from the get go as the freak but I think it’s a misdirection away from someone else.

Finally finished Squid Games.. if you're like me and waited for no good reason, just watch it already!

Spoiler

Gi-hun is beyond dumb for trying to.. what? Expose them?  Why doesn't he think they will shoot him in the head the second he leaves that airport? My wife rolled her eyes and said "well, he gets to disappoint his daughter one last time at least"

The old man is still my favorite character

I get why they had Sang-Woo kill Sae-byeok, it gave Gi-hun the drive to absolutely destroy Sang-woo.. but still, it crushed me to have her die that way.

The bully and crazy lady's deaths were fantastic. I was at the edge of my seat for that game

Got a free 3 month trial of apple+ so I’m starting with Ted Lasso. Heard nothing but good things about it and I like Bill Lawrence well enough for making Scrubs.

-im probably a pretty ideal audience for it since idk much about soccer and the schtick is it’s a dumb American football fan/coach thrust into the world of soccer.
-not knowing much about soccer means there will be less division of belief between what I know sports operations to look like vs what they are portrayed as in film and shows. I’m overly critical of stuff like Every Given Sunday, Replacements, Blue Mountain State etc because they’re just over the top spoofs of the real thing.
-I think the biggest obstacle will be that it’s an American show doing British humor. British humor is infinitely better to me than the Americanized version will be. Much more natural, less campy.

Be sure to watch Severance too.
