Just finished S2 of White Lotus

Spoiler

Man, it really stings that Lucia completely played Albie for $50,000. I mean I should've seen that coming, but I also kind of thought he actually was going to bring her to LA - guess that's why that stuff works so well. That sucked.

Is it actually confirmed at any point that Greg was trying to kill Tonya for the money? I mean there's definitely clues and speculation throughout, and I guess her death on the yacht somewhat confirms it, but we never actually learn who Quentin and those other dudes actually are.

And then with Harper/Ethan, all they needed was to **** and that fixed everything? Did she actually cheat on him? And where did Ethan go with Daphne when they went for a walk?

Lastly, man if I was Albie and got taken for a ride for $50,000 by an escort I'm not sure I'd be in the head space to immediately give another girl who also treated me like **** my number. But I guess that just kinda fits into his character of being super nice.

Overall I really did like this season more than I thought I would. I still think Season 1's characters are much better (there's really no topping the S1 Hotel Manager for me), but Season 2 was still solid.

What I liked in Alice in Borderland season 2:

  • I liked that the Kings (and Queens that we saw) weren't ***hats. I like that they were just kind of cool.
Spoiler

I also thought the death scenes for a couple of them were flat out awesome. The queen getting hit as she jumps off the building, Kyuma just standing all over the water

  • I Iiked the score for the most part. I thought it hit the right notes in the melancholy situations
  • I liked most of  the game sets ups. The King of Spades game is fun and crazy despite being so simple. The Jack of Hearts is probably my favorite game of the year, though Osmosis is great. I have to ding the King of Diamonds game and Checkmate / Tag with the Queen of Spades because ultimately they were overly reliant on getting lucky (though Chishiya did force that somewhat in King of Diamonds).

Some things that I liked that need some tags maybe:

Spoiler
  • Personally, I like that Chota and Karube were still such big parts of the story through Arisu's emotional state. Too often people die and then they are mostly just forgotten about after the fact. You have the funeral or something and then nobody ever talks about them again. But Chota and Karube are still kind of pivotal to this season, and the friendship and bond that those three have with one another really does keep a melancholy baseline to the show which I think is pivotal.

  • Aguni. I like that his situation was complex and not everything was as it seemed.  I liked that he got a redemption tour. Likewise, I like that Niragi basically remained a scum piece of crap.

Couple of things that I didn't like:

Spoiler
  • The relationship between Arisu and Usagi felt far too much like it was straight out of a JRPG lol
  • I am so damn conflicted on everyone surviving that King of Spades fight. Like, it took away quite a bit of the weight behind the fight, ultimately, and watching it the first time, seeing some of them go down in such violent ways, was truly a gut punch. Having them all survive was almost silly given some of their wounds...but at the same time, I didn't want anyone to die lol

My wife was thinking she was actually falling for him. I was like no way lol.

There was definitely something happening. Greg and his buddies were getting their share absolutely.

And then with Harper/Ethan, all they needed was to **** and that fixed everything? Did she actually cheat on him? And where did Ethan go with Daphne when they went for a walk?

As for the latter? I think Ethan probably slept with her and was now "even". He could relax again. Aubrey Plaza I think I read somewhere said she thinks her character did sleep with him.

I think Season 2 was actually better. I enjoyed it more. But I agree with you, the hotel manager from S1 was arguably the best character (and arc) so far.

I think the beauty of the show and a lot of your questions are your interpretation of it. My thoughts in your quote.

My thoughts:

Spoiler

Couldn't agree more about the King of Spades and how they literally survived despite getting violently defeated. I think it would've hit harder if they all died. Likewise with Chisuya and Niragi should've both died as well. Seems like the show either killed you in .01 seconds or you didn't die at all.

I also personally did NOT like the way that the games gave the face cards this extra time to make some grand speech after they lose, when in every other game the timer runs out and you're dead - that's it.

Agreed with you about Usagi/Arisu's relationship being really weird. Especially after they wake up in the hospital.

Overall I thought season 1 focused more on the brutality of the games and season 2 focused more on the characters surviving the games. It was kind of a bummer for me that almost no major characters died in the games in S2, but you could argue that at that particular point, the characters left were experts in the games. Still would've liked to see at least 1 or 2 of them lose.

Phooey. I'll PM it. It wasn't extravagant or anything anyway lol.

My thoughts to your thoughts lol

Spoiler

It's definitely interesting that if Ethan did sleep with Daphne that all of their relationships are based around cheating and accepting it. I was also curious about the Daphne/Trainer thing when she shows Harper the picture of her kids. I was thinking that "trainer" just meant they should have kids and it'll make it easier, then I thought that maybe Daphne's kids weren't Cameron's? Idk.

But yeah the hotel manager arc and character from S1 was so good and he played that role SO perfectly.

This might also be an unpopular opinion but I didn't like Jennifer Coolidge in this show much at all. I couldn't tell if she was acting or just being herself, but Tonya's character was just too...idk...stupid? Ditzy? Confused? for me to really even buy into her story line at all.

Episode 1 of That 90’s Show. It’s weird, idk what to make of it. There was a time I wanted a 70s show reboot (and Malcolm in the middle). It feels nostalgic, the set similar, same dumb sitcom jokes. I’m going in knowing I’ll probably not like the new kids cause it’s essentially Gen z’s take on the 90s and it’ll be cognizant of today’s morals and sense of humor and overall sensibilities. So definitely a grain of salt kind of show. 99.9% of my investment in the show will be based on the cameos of the original cast

One of the kids in the show reminds me of Android 19 in Dragon Ball Z

Finally finished BCS. It was a great show if you've seen Breaking Bad first. I've seen it, but I know someone who hasn't and they obviously didn't enjoy it like I did. I think I'd rank the seasons 3, 4, 6, 5, 1, 2. Definitely some wiggle room between the top 4 though.

My biggest complaint with the final season is the time jumps. They were easy to follow, so no complaints there. I wish there wasn't so much in black and white. It would have been nice if those faded into color at some point. Also, there wasn't really a clear time frame of how long the jumps were.

The better call Saul chant on the bus was a bit cringe. I did appreciate Kim's somewhat of a face turn. I wasn't a fan of her visiting Saul to recreate the smoking on a wall scene. I'm unsatisfied with the ending. I'm not sure what they could've done better but it was a bit lackluster for me. Everything after the Kim leaving time jump just was a different tempo and didn't hit with me. I'm happy to have watched it but I'll never watch it again.
