What exactly do they get out of putting Andy Dalton out there? They need to play Bryce Young through this regardless to see if he's worth keeping around or not. Even if he's not, his abysmal play gets you the high pick you'll need to replace him. Benching him now is stupid to me.

Odds are, they already know that he's not.

But honestly, there's sort of an experiment here that is probably worthwhile. Because if Dalton comes in, a guy who is probably a top.....45? QB in the league and this offense starts running a lot more smoothly, I think it tells you quite a bit.

Easiest evaluation I’ve ever done on any player in any position.

Historic outlier in terms of size.

Average at best arm tools and talent.

Low ceiling.

Good athlete in space, not great pocket presence.

Slow to go through progressions.

Lands in Carolina where they’re devoid of offensive talent.

What could go wrong?

What makes it so much worse is that CJ Stroud looks like a top 3 QB in the league right now. Modern day Ryan Leaf / Peyton Manning situation... Except Bryce went first obviously.

But the Colts were the #1 pick and got it right. The Panthers had their choice…. I’m never taking a QB under 6 foot 2 in the Top 10 picks. And that includes Mayfield at 6’1” (although I’m loving his resurgence in TB).
