Players play on 1 year deals all the time. That's why they have a franchise tag.

I love Mack, I don't want to see him traded. But this is in face the landscape of the NFL. The CBA built in a 5th year option and teams exercise that to their star 1st round draft picks to retain their rights. It's a TEAM option. Not a PLAYER option. So the team is well within their contractual rights.

Do I think Mack should be paid, yes. Should Donald, 100%. Thomas.... yes again. Should teams cater to every player that wants an extension or raise, no. It's business... that's not how you run a business.

In the end, contract will get done and this will be moot.

When is the last time a star playing his 5th year option or a franchise tag worked out for the team? They don't stay. Bell even said this is his last year in Pittsburgh. I'm sure Mack is NOT happy and even he is letting trade ideas enter his head.

the raiders will be the first team to pay 2 players 20 mil in a season.

Mack wont be traded, no team will give up 2 first round picks plus a starter or another pick and give Mack 20 mil.
Right now, the best thing about a first round pick is THE FIFTH YEAR OPTION

It is one of, if not the main reason, why teams trade back into the first,  when they are already in the second.

with the way the Salary Cap is, getting a 5th year is huge.

Sucks, but the Raiders arent at fault for this .. bring it up end of year with the players union.

will Mack be underpaid this year, yeap. Will he sign a ridiculously big / record setting contract next year, yeap.
Add in, if we move to Vegas next year, it will work out even better for Mack.

Why get a big signing bonus right now, when you can potentially wait 1 year and pay 0% state income tax on it.

Obviously, there is risk of injury... but then should every player in the final year of a contract should hold out?

From what I recall, Melvin Ingram and Dont'a Hightower. I'm sure there are others. Certainly not the majority but it does happen. Although the more recent trend has been for new deals/extentions to be done after year 3 or 4.

Bell's situation is completely different. He wasnt a first round pick. Never had a 5th year option. Instead Pittsburgh has misused the franchise tag system (smartly or unethically depending on your view) knowing the statistics of RBs with high carries approaching 30. Totally separate issue from the 5th year option conversation

There is no way Mack get's traded. It's too early to assume that the rookies will be great, they haven't gone up against starters yet. I mean the guys they are beating are going to be fedex guys and car salesmen in a week. I mean if some team gives up a kings ransom for him sure but it's gonna have to be something like 3 firsts and 3 seconds. Look at most teams who have won the Super Bowl, they have a lot of depth on the line with pass rushers and Mack can rush the passer as well as defend the run. His position isn't the most important on the team but it's the second most important and he's the best there is.

Who cares what Mack wants he has no leverage at all.

The Raiders have them under contract this year and could franchise tag him for two more years.

At that time Mack would be 30 years old good luck trying to get a long-term contract then especially if he misses regular-season games.

He should show up play for the Raiders moved to Las Vegas and make up all the money he would’ve got in the contract through endorsement deals with the casinos. If the casinos pay Kim Kardashian hundreds of thousands of dollars to show up at a party, what would they pay for Mack to hang out with the high rollers. $$$$

I don't understand you question. Donald is staying. OBJ is staying. Bell is a RB and unfortunately, it's not a premium position teams want to invest in.

I'm sure Mack is an intelligent person. He understands how this game is played because he's watching Donald from the same draft class go through it. These players know that it's business and not personal.

Again... a lot of you guys are getting to emotional over this because you're letting the media occupy space in your heads. It's business, it will work out and he will be back on the field soon enough.

Some of you guys are stressing a bit too much.  Raiders hold all the cards here and Mack’s team is trying to scare the Raiders into a new deal.  We easily can tag Mack for 2 years after this season making us have a 3yr $55(ish) mil deal, which is a cheaper and safer deal for the Raiders.  I hate doing Mack like that, but if he is looking for over $22mil per season I get the Raiders thinking on this.  No way Mack sits the season and gives up $14 mil.  He is proving a point and I can’t blame him.  He is our best player and face of the franchise, both sides want a deal, but they both want it on their terms.  Once Mack starts losing almost $1mil per week something will get done.

I'm honestly starting to think Mack is gonna get traded. We all know Reggie wants to keep him and if Mark has the money.... This is on Jon Gruden. For whatever reason he doesn't wanna pay him. Its beyond bizarre and heart breaking.

Technically they don't have to pay him now, that's just the reality, blame the CBA they negotiated.

Reggie drafts nothing but busts, but the one pick he hits out the park.... he doesn't want to pay...lol.... without Mack, Reggie would be fired....Gruden job will be easier with Mack, but his ego might want to bring in his own guy or guys with that money

Derek carr? Gabe? Cooper?
