Correct me if I'm wrong, but we could tag him and he sits without a long term deal or just signs right before week 10. The next year if we tag him again, wouldn't the tag go even higher making using the tag prohibitive? Wouldn't we then have to let Dak walk Cousins style?

Yeah, but when he is sitting he also not getting paid while accruing heavy fines. Those fines, I believe, are no longer forgivable by the franchise.

Fields may be the RG3 to Lawrence’s Luck, but Fields is still one of the better QB prospects we’ve seen in a decade.

I see this RG3 comparison flying around and although he CAN run the ball when asked , it not where he has been making his money this season.. He's been every good as Trevor Lawrence this season if not better.

He has as many incompletions as TDs so far this season which is 11, with a ridiculous 86.7% completion rate.

I get it Trevor Lawrence has been the golden boy of college football since he stepped on the field in death valley.

Justin Fields has made a huge statement with his  limited opportunities, and more importantly progressed his game very very quickly.

IF and only IF he keeps on playing he way he does now, he's going to make the #1 pick a very hard decision.

I’ve actually been considering starting a QB thread for college prospects this year.  There are actually about 5-6 guys that are intriguing.  Do you guys think it would be worth it to track these guys?

Its already been made:

If the Cowboys Jets and Jaguars finish at 2-14 who get the number one pick? If the Cowboys get the number one pick they are gonna take Lawerence. Elway has the highest grade ever for a draft prospect I believe Lawrence will be Rated pretty close to Elway.

I was comparing him to RG3's situation, not the player himself.

It almost doesn't matter how well he plays, Lawrence has been the foregone conclusion at #1 for a long time, much like Andrew Luck. That puts Fields in a similar position to RG3... in many other drafts, he'd be the #1 pick, even though he doesn't have a great shot at making it happen in 2021.

I would be surprised if Lawrence or any QBS are in play with their top pick. There have simply been too many signals indicating otherwise. Not saying they shouldn’t be doing a lot of homework on TL and Fields, or that they shouldn’t be considered, I just don’t think they pull that trigger.
If I had to bet a paycheck and they do manage to get #1 overall (or 2 or 3) I’d bet on them taking the king’s ransom and rebuilding the defense and OL.

I don’t see why people view him that way right now. He’s very raw, and very stiff. His upside is high, but the production really isn’t there yet.

Interesting. He topped Bruce Feldman's 2020 freaks list, which historically has been pretty good at identifying the true freaks in college football.

Reading that report ("He has a rare blend of strength, control, balance and change of direction"), I would not have expected you to describe Paye as stiff. Will keep that in mind when I watch him.

I would take the Kings ransom and the he'll with the "rare blend" or "war daddy" or any other primadona.

I would take the best blue collar, least injured, fundamentally sound group of players available.

The positions I would look at are:

DT, DE, LT, S, LB, G.

Not pretty, but if they can block, shed blocks, tackle and are smart, and I mean SMART, as in follow directions, read a defensive or offensive scheme, recognize weaknesses and exploit them, and are not China dolls, then that's our guy.

We have enough primadonas. Already Cooper has seen pouting when he doesn't get the ball, then there's Elliott, Lamb, Diggs on defense, Lawrence, etc.

Point is, we always go for the fan favorite, the specialist, the can't miss guy and the problem with that is, without a strong supporting cast that knows their job, our blue chip means ****!

He looked a lot better last season than this season thus far. Maybe it’s the late practices. Not sure, but he looks different than last year.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s an NFL talent without a doubt, but his stats aren’t eye popping.
