Touchback rule is currently consistent and simple. Fumbling, well, isn't.

How is it complicated?

If the ball is fumbled and the ball goes forward and out of bounds, then the ball is spotted at the place of the fumble. The end zone shouldn't change that rule, that is the complication. This would simplify it.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree I guess. You, for some reason, believe my previous paragraph is complicated.

I know a guy that kicked at a low level in college. Said that it isn't unusual when practicing that one of their trainings is to play "posts" as way to really hone kicking it exactly where you want it. Maybe they do that in the NFL too and it's biting them in the butt
