AFC East: James J. Phillips Division, referencing the commissioner of the ACC. Three of the division's teams are located within reasonable driving distance of an ACC school: the Bills (Syracuse), Dolphins (Miami, with whom they share their home stadium), and Patriots (Boston College). Additionally, the Jets are near Barclays Center, where two ACC Men's Basketball Tournaments have been held, and will return in 2022.

AFC North: Kevin Warren East Division, referencing the commissioner of the Big Ten. All four members of the division are in the same state as a Big Ten school: the Browns and Bengals share their state with Ohio State, the Steelers with Penn State, and the Ravens with Maryland (who only joined in 2014).

AFC South: Mike Aresco Division, referencing the commissioner of The American. The three actual Southern schools share their home state with at least one member of The American: the Jaguars (South Florida and UCF), Texans (Houston and SMU), and Titans (Memphis).

AFC West: Craig Thompson Division, referencing the commissioner of the MWC. Three of the division's teams are within reasonable driving distance of an MWC member: the Broncos (Air Force and Colorado State), Chargers (Fresno State, San Diego State), and Raiders (UNLV, with whom they share their home stadium).

NFC East: Val Ackerman Division, referencing the commissioner of the second incarnation of the Big East. Three of the division's teams are in the same market as at least one Big East member: the Giants (St. John's and Seton Hall), Eagles (Villanova), and WFT (Georgetown). Additionally, the Cowboys share their market with SMU, a member of The American, which also formed from the split of the original Big East.

NFC North: Kevin Warren West Division, again referencing the Big Ten commish. All four teams in the division share a home state with at least one Big Ten member, and three of them are located in the same market as one: the Bears (Northwestern), Lions (Michigan), and Vikings (Minnesota).

NFC South: Greg Sankey Division, referencing the commissioner of the SEC. All four members of the division are within reasonable driving distance of an SEC school: the Buccaneers are near Florida, the Falcons near Georgia, the Panthers near South Carolina (though not in the same state, SC has some of Charlotte's suburbs and the SEC Network is HQ'ed in Charlotte), and the Saints near LSU.

NFC West: George Kliavkoff Division, referencing the commissioner of the Pac-12. All four members of the division share their market with at least one Pac-12 school: the 49ers with Cal and Stanford, the Cardinals with Arizona State, the Rams with UCLA and USC, and the Seahawks with Washington.

As conference commissioners get replaced, these nicknames will be updated over time with the names of the new commissioners. Like before the NFC South was the Sankey Division, it was the Michael Slive Division.
