Should Andy Reid Be On The Hot Seat?

Seems like Chiefs fans forgot about those late Herm Edwards-early Todd Haley years with dumb questions like this.

All of Chiefs social media this year, and today especially, has showcased this fan base not remembering what an actual bad football team looks like. It's all been fire Veach, is Reid washed, the team has no talent, etc. They don't remember an actual bad GM/HC/team.

We had fans wanting to trade Mike Evans after week one because AB and Gronk went off and Evans had like 20 yards.

Fans are all big dumb idiots.

Not at all. But I think Spags and Veach should be feeling the heat a bit, if they aren't already. The defense has been pitiful this year, and the moves they made to rebuild the OL clearly haven't panned out.

Ehhhh kind of. The trouble with OL, is so much of it comes from continuity and understanding of scheme and responsibilities. Turning over all 5 OL spots in one year is going to make that tricky, inevitably. The individual players have all done well. Thuney, Humphrey, and Smith have all been excellent. Niang, Remmers, and Brown have all been good enough. Our run game has actually been good, we've just fallen behind and into shootouts all year. I think the OL rebuild has panned out fine, it just hasn't been the dominant force people hoped for. Veach's drafting record has been much better than all the Chiefs fans freaking out seem to think, as well (free agency/trades have been iffier.)

Spags, yes, at this point, should be on the hot seat. There is talent on this D that is underperforming. Basically the entire DL (save Danna) are having the worst years of their careers right now. Sorensen/Thornhill was horribly mismanged. He was outcoached to an insane degree today. They actually stopped Henry, but couldn't defend a screen or a play action pass to save their lives.

The thing is we do remember and this team is playing just like those awful teams. We just lost 27-3 against the Titans, and they let off the gas in the second half.

Ineptitude, confusion, and a serious misallocation of resources.

The bold disproves the underlined. This isn't 2012, or 2011, or 2008. This isn't fire the head coach or GM territory. Not even close.

The Titans are a good football team. Sometimes good football teams will take you down, even if your team isn't bad. The Chargers just lost by 28 to the Ravens. Who just lost by 24 to the Bengals. Getting routed once doesn't mean the team is trash. It's been a few years since we've lost any regular season game by more than a touchdown. But it's actually quite common for basically every team in football, most years.

Right now, we're a flawed team with a high ceiling, but a low floor, some fantastic star players, some schematic flaws, and some underachieving talent. If that reminds you of the Herm Edwards/Todd Haley Chiefs teams, you don't remember anything.

This reminds me of those terrible 1991 SF 49ers who were 1 play from 3 straight Super Bowls in 1988-1990.

They finished 3rd in their division so of course they should have fired Seifert.

Oh yeah, the next 3 years were NFCCG, NFCCG, Championship.

Reid was 38-10 6-2 the last 3 years before this. Is there a 40-8 7-1 upgrade guy out there on speed dial?

Yeah, teams have started figuring out that if you stop our offense from running and passing it's super easy to shut down. They have also been scoring on our defense which has made it really hard to win.

Our defense has been bad, but let's not let Mahomes off here, either. Every QB gets a lucky season or two like he did, but now that he's a few years in and teams are starting to play to Cover-2 against him, he's been exposed as a mediocre QB who got lucky on a couple throws. The Cover 2 also takes away Hill, who can only run deep crossers and Kelce who is just a jerk.

Clearly the only answer is to blow it up and rebuild. I'm pretty sure no team in NFL history has made the playoffs after starting 3-4. If we can trade Hill / Kelce for a few late round picks and really work the draft, we might be able to find a late round QBOTF, which we will need because our franchise has been absolutely decimated by the Mahomes contract.

Fire Reid, promote Spags to HC and get a decent DC in there. Veach is fine as GM but he needs to delegate the player decisions to someone else and just handle the finances/ticket sales/etc. He is probably top 3 in the league at that part of GMing. The amount of embarrassment this team has caused this historic franchise by losing 4 games is just unforgivable.
