I wasn’t going to mention what round you wanted him 😉, I agree that he could be a decent rotation guy and might give us an indication of what Graham is looking at on the d-line.

Last year Graham had around 1,000 lbs on the front 3 so I think players like Davis and Jones are on the radar.  Couple mid round guys could be  Ogbonnia  and Ridgeway.

Haha yes, you remembered! 😁

I actually wanted to draft him in the first round (but we'll gloss over that).

I think his career has been very stop-start, injured his rookie year then a couple solid years before sitting out a season due to Covid and doing virtually nothing last year.

The thing I will say is that he has terrific strength and can really shift for a big guy. He's never lived up to his potential but is a good signing as a guy who can anchor, use his strength at the PoA and will be a cheap reclamation project. I don't expect him to break out but he can be a decent rotation guy at this stage in his career I feel.

First was a tad high on him, but you weren’t the only one valuing him as a 1st rounder.  Id loosely say his “average” draft valuation was as a top 45 pick.  He was a pretty highly ranked prospect who just happened to fall on draft day.  I always thought that lost sub 6’1 height factored in significantly, but what do I know.

Opting out of the 2020 season really set him back, I think.   He left Cincy after his rookie deal was up for 1yr, 3.5M, which is nothing to sneeze at, with Cleveland then sat out THAT year on a COVID opt-out. Opting out of the season when you signed a “prove it” deal, with a new team at that, from Purely a Career Standpoint is a very bad idea.  Cleveland had drafted Elliot in the 3rd the year he signed and then drafted Togiai, whose a pretty similar player, in the 4th the next year, plus they brought in a few FAs.  Lastly, a year away from football for a NT means 1 thing for sure…. They’re not gonna be in shape early for TC and those rumors quickly came out and it wasn’t long into the season til he was cut.

But the good thing for us is, he’s healthy now and only 26 with minimal wear and tear the last 2 years.  That’s a recipe for success if he comes in motivated.  He isn’t likely to be a starter, but if he can give us 300-400 snaps (he was plays 630-650 his 3rd and 4th years in Cleveland… but remember he sat out rookie year hurt) then I think the signing would be a moderate success. I’m guessing he signed for the league minimum salary and at best for a 250k Signing Bonus, if he even for anything.

Good post. I had envisioned him as a Vita Vea type who could stuff the run but had eye opening athleticism to add some pass rush......as you say his career has never really taken off but much like Solomon Thomas last year or Darius Philon he'll have a chance to get back on track, good low risk high upside signing IMO.

Devontae Booker released from NY. Always liked him, but with Drake + likely Richard there's no spot.

I'd see what I could get him for.

Drake's status is TBD and I'm ready to move on from Richard from a contract standpoint.

Be honest…. You saw that clip of him hustling 30-40 yards down field and chase down the ball carrier and he became your guy?
(Just a joke) the guy had some highlight plays blowing up OL even double teams that made more people then you put him down as a 1st rounder.
yeah, guys like Thomas, Philon, even Arden Key in SF last year, can have their careers take off suddenly, or they can fall out of favor … all the way out the league and fast.

ive personally known a few NFL players and they’ve all said how theirs the stars who are just on another level and then there is the vast majority of the players who are all relatively close in talent.  It just comes down to being in the right system with right coaches and getting an opportunity, then producing.  A guy like Billings could get the right opportunity here and with the right circumstances falling his way he could become a solid, replacement level starter…. But he’s just as likely to get hurt and never get another chance in the league.

Hopefully we resign Jefferson. If Hayward isn't a fit for Graham, then I can see him walking sadly. Great player for us though.

WR will just be too pricey in FA imo. Better to address the OL/DL in free agency and we can always go for WR/CB in the draft. Zay is a fine player to resign on a modest 2-3 year deal provided he's a fit for McDaniels. If he wants more than 3-4 mil though, I'll pass on him and just take a 1 year flier/draft someone.
