People acting like Ryan was MVP, or even decent last year is genuinely making me laugh.

He was mediocre for most of the season and bellow average for spots.

You obviously never watched him play last year.

He played behind the worst oline in the league, no running game and his best WR for most of the year was Russel Gage.

The Falcons most likely win one or two games all year with a truly average QB.

He's a guy who with a good oline and running game can pick apart a defense. Colts got a massive steal and are legitimately a Superbowl contender now.

Wow. That's actually a really cheap deal for the Colts.

That's nuts. Great get for the Colts, especially since it's basically a swap for Wentz plus they get a 3rd that could be a 2nd. 🥃

The AFC QB Class just became even more fully loaded and absolutely stacked @ QB.

Matt Ryan might be 36 years old but he had a really good season last year (QB Rating of 90.4 despite playing on an absolute crap team) and can still play this game @ a very high level.

Awesome move for Indianapolis by getting Matt Ryan @ QB because he's an extremely efficient QB and Jonathan Taylor @ RB will open up the passing game for Matt Ryan.

That’s what he was down the stretch. Beat the two worst teams in the league and a Panthers team that finished 2-12 after starting 3-0.

Just say you didn't watch my guy.

I thought the Colts would be more adventurous than this. It's cheap compensation but a soon-to-be 37 year old quarterback with less than ideal physical traits is supposed to be cheap compensation.

I didn't read the entirety of the thread but let's not pretend Ryan didn't show signs of a drop off last season. He was well below 7 YPA for the vast majority of the season and didn't nudge slightly above 7 until picking it up over the final 6 games.

Nobody is entitled to a great offensive line or ideal receivers. When you start making excuses or adjustments in this league you are kidding yourself. The gaps in this league are very small, and especially at positions like offensive line with 5 players out there at all times. The sheer fact that it's 5 as opposed to 1 means that level balances out from team to team as opposed to one awesome player who towers well above the norm.

All these rankings of offensive lines first to last ignores that it's like a blanket finish in a swimming race. Hands hit the wall at the same time in a blur. Someone is technically first and someone last. The sources that use numbers to rank those units are wildly off base, with gaps way too large from actual. Those sources cater to fans who want to see disparity so they can react to it. The numbers aren't even close to what a true power rating table would use. I've had discussions with Las Vegas oddsmakers along those lines, friends of mine when I lived there and was in the sportsbook industry. I asked them if offensive lines are ever considered toward the power rankings or betting odds. They laugh and say never. Nothing has changed from my era in town.

This is the same mistake Dolphins fans are making with Tua. The offensive line means nothing compared to the simple fact that he's not talented or special enough by NFL standards.
