Belichick is now 27-19 in his last 46 without Brady.

10-5 in 2008

3-1 in 2016

7-9 last season

7-4 so far this season

Do we focus on the 7-9 for some reason? Narrative purposes perhaps?

Now include Cleveland 1991-1995 and the Patriots in 2000 and compare that to the win percentage with Brady.

I mean that one tenure was 25-30 years ago, in 2000 the Patriots were rebuilding just like they were in 2020, no cap space, lost good players, couldn't add any and Brady left a team that was 4-5 down the stretch the season before.

I don't see any good example where Belichick actually built his own team without Brady, this year is the first good measuring stick really and it's still with a rookie QB.

If you want to examine the effect of his coaching with and without Brady, you have to use all the data available.  You can't parse data here and there and have it result in the same comparison you're trying to make.  Otherwise you lose the effect of Brady on Belichick's coaching.

Brady didn't play for the 1991-1995 Browns, the 2000 Patriots, the early-season 2001 Patriots, the 2020-2021 Patriots, and for stretches of games here and there along the way.  That's the comparison to make.  Only then can you determine the effect of Brady on Belichick.

What we'll find of course is that Belichick without Brady is a shell of Belichick with Brady, and that stands to reason given that quarterback play drives the bus on winning in the NFL.

Belichick will be successful like he was 2001-2019 to the degree that he acquires a quarterback who plays at a similar level.  The Patriots won their last five games largely because Mac Jones is 4th in the league in EPA per pass dropback during that period.

So you're saying that having a good QB helps a coach to win games?

Now count BB's record as a DC in NY/NY and NE as well. (awww, doesn't fit the weak sauce narrative. does it?)

Let us know when Brady has more SB rings than Belichick. It will take 2 more rings unless Bill gets another one.

Brady is the GoaT. (player)

BB is also the GoaT. (coach)

People who try to diminish BB are failing badly 24/7. You can have max respect for Brady (I do) and also have respect for Belichick.

BB ate Joe Montana in the playoffs 3 times.

Joe Cool is 0-3 with 1 TD 3 picks and 2 beatings in 3 playoff games vs BB's defense.

The 49ers scored 3, 3, and 13 in those 3 games

He beat the Giants 21-10 the year before BB took over the Giants D. (300 yards with 3 TDs and 3 picks)

  • Playoff Montana vs the rest: 16-4 with 44 TDs and 16 picks.
  • Playoff Montana vs BB: 0-3 with 1 TD and 3 picks.

Brady was an 8, 10, and 13 year old 49ers fan during those 3 games.
