When Brian Griese said last night "Baker doesn't have a strong arm" that was icing on the cake as to just how absolutely awful he is as a commentator. He doesn't do his homework, he doesn't watch other games, and he's super whiny and obnoxious.

very much this -
But I wonder if he isn't being coached a bit during the production meetings. BSPN always wants controversy and hot takes, so maybe he's the designated d-bag for the broadcasts. Otherwise, he's just obnoxious and poor at his job

IMO, this has been his thing ever since he started, even before MNF. If you pay attention, he specifically loves bashing all things Ohio since he's a UM grad. Plus, this was common knowledge coming out:

https://brownswire.usatoday.com/2018/03/08/josh-allen-baker-mayfield-top-qb-velocity-during-combine-throwing-session/?scrlybrkr=daa78e6d

Baker, Josh Allen, and Mahomes are all comparable with velocity.

Quote

Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield were the only quarterbacks who topped 60 MPH on the radar gun during the NFL Scouting Combine.

I'm not saying that Baker doesn't have flaws, because he does, but arm strength isn't even close to one of them and never has been. It's like people assume that he does just because he's only 6'1.

https://www.pass2win.com/ball-velocity-exposing-the-power-qb.html#:~:text=Murray has Baker Mayfield stuff,QBs in the 2020 draft.

Check out the all time list:

Name, College, NFL Team – Ball Velocity in MPH
Josh Allen Wyoming 62

Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech, Bills (TE) - 60
Bryan Bennet, SE Louisiana, CFL- 60
Pat Mahomes, Texas Tech, Chiefs- 60
Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma, Browns 60

It was a good throw in terms of displaying arm strength. But was such a bad throw. How do you throw a hail mary attempt out of bounds.

Well that I won't disagree with as far as "good vs. bad throw", but the arm strength portion was just a stupid comment. He even had the opportunity to walk it back and then doubled down on it later. The backhanded compliments about Baker were memeworthy from him.

"With what he has to work with, Baker isn't bad"

"Stefanski is scheming to Baker's strengths on the rollout since he's so small"

"Baker Mayfield has had major issues with balls batted down this year (4 total going into last night)"

The dude is a joke and a hater.

I don't know if you saw it or not, but Levy intentionally mentioned the OSU Marching Band performance and jabbed at Griese, in which case he smirked and shook his head/rolled his eyes. It's a funny under the surface thing...almost a tick. :)
