So what is Denver going to do now?

Unlike Payton, who DEN backed off on (nothing against Payton as a HC in a vacuum, but the price would be the issue, or the control Payton wanted) - if Ryans goes to HOU, it's because he chose to go to HOU over DEN.  Won't lie, that would sting a lot.

The next candidate would be David Shaw (JIm Caldwell & Evero are the other 2 interviewed).    He's got a fair amount of buzz internally, because of his Stanford connections.   Won't lie, wouldn't be nearly as excited as with Ryans.   This one would hurt.

Full court press and Hire the DC they should of been after all along. Just 🙏 Dan Quinn can bring in a OC with some kind of chemistry/ability to get the best out of the carcass formerly known as Russell Wilson.

Maybe Demeco's agent came out with the Broncos report to up the leverage on the Texans?

The report of Ryans being one of Denver's "top options" doesn't benefit the Broncos at all, but it maybe does benefit Ryans to get better competing offers

What makes sense for all parties is Texans hiring Ryans & Broncos hiring Payton (trade the late 1st from SF)

Naw, Ryans has been the leader there from the get go.

Broncos being all in on Ryans and coming out with David Shaw would be sad as hell

Nature of the beast. Every team was waiting on the Sean Payton domino to fall, dictating the rest.

Problem is those teams were also interviewing other candidates,  in some cases multiple times hoping for the Payton/Ryans/Quinn sweepstakes (in that order).

Denver's Stubbornness just cost then Dan Quinn as well. Most likely Ryans going back to the Texans. Musical chairs in full effect. Sometimes holding out hope for 1, cost you all. GL!

Evero has a lot of 4-3 experience - so I wouldn't be so sure.    The Wal-marts won't be afraid to spend $, so they'd likely be happy to offer a boatload of $ to Ryans and Evero to stay.

One thing we should be mindful of - successful 1st-time HC's rarely become de facto OC / DC's.   Daboll specifically picked Kafka to run the O - Daboll didn't call the plays.   That's huge if you're going to be a first-time HC.   I would hope if Ryans is the DEN guy, he keeps 3 guys - Evero to run the D (so he can be the overseer, and just have final say on D stuff, but not the detail stuff), Rosburg to run ST's (and be a vet AC presence), and bring back Mike Munchak to be an OL coach (or co-OL coach with a young guy they groom).  Munchak ONLY wants to coach in DEN because he's got grandkids there.  It's the perfect fit (and one of the doomsday decisions Hackett made in not retaining him and hiring a completely unqualified disaster in Butch Barry).

Wait where are you getting the stat that successful first time HCs aren’t the playcallers as well?
