They Shall Not Grow Old came out this year. But since its has no BOOM BOOM's and giant set pieces, people didn't seem to care that much. Brilliant concept and execution.

But, I wasn't referring to documentaries. I'd class TSNGO with Apocalypse WWI (2014)

I did as well and that’s exactly how I felt. Of the major awards contenders I just have Marriage Story and Parasite to cross off. One seems a lot easier than the other to see in a small town. 1917 is right there at the top with Once Upon a time in Hollywood.
devils1854
1917 was amazing, but it was also very disappointing. It was all spectacle. I didnt care one bit for any of the actors. They were like characters in a video game.
jetsfan4life51
I love the way 1917 was shot, that would be cool to see in other movies.

Alot of sociopolitical concepts and symbology all wound into a dark comedy. One of those films where all the characters are so flawed you struggle to support any of them. I typically don't mind foreign films and reading the subtitles but there is a ton of dialog in this one so I felt like I was missing alot of the cinimatology. But an excellent movie nonetheless and def lives up to the high ratings it's getting.
animaltested
1917 is dope. Deakins Da GAWD carried this movie. IMO the bookends of the film are its strongest parts (Crossing No Mans Land, the last Scene). The middle is.....a beautiful mess. Its a cinema EXPERIENCE, and you feel the love and attention to detail everyone person connected to the film had. The small screen WILL NOT do this movie justice. Go see it, pay for it on the big screen its worth it.

If I watch it on an 86 inch TV with a 1,300 dollar sound system all by myself in a couch nobody puked on without parents and their 9 month old crying baby disrupting the experience, I’d say it’s a better experience. Theaters are dead. Long live avoiding idiots and enjoying a movie.
BobbyPhil1781
Anyone catch The Outsider on HBO last night? Looks promising. I'll probably catch it tonight.
Neumatic
Finally watched IT Chapter 2. Talk about a let down, now I don’t feel too bad about not seeing it in theaters. It’s almost 3 hours long but they some how made it feel like a 5 hour marathon, so bravo for that.

beekay414
1917 was very very good. I sat in the front row and it felt like I was right there with them the entire movie. Do not think it's best picture good but it very well should win for cinematography.

I went with a girl to see it and we paid 0% attention to it and don’t think we missed much
