Let me ask you this, how does he stand up against Fangio and Bradley?  It seems to be that those three were the best available.  How do you differentiate between them?

I don't get the Fangio love. Fangio has been a journeyman with a mixed bag of results. I feel like there's a Fangio available every year.

Bradley has a pretty damn elite resume as well, though watching the Jaguars get better with him leaving makes you wonder. I overstated, though I see Bradley as part of the HC circuit rather than the DC circuit.

His success with the Jets is very nice. However, Polian's comments make me concerned. Capers was known for having a complex scheme. I was kind of hoping we'd bring in someone to simplify things.

I'm really excited to hear that he's an adept gameplanner. I feel like we haven't been good at that defensively for some time.

Polian also called Jake Ryan his favorite player in that draft. He’s not infallible.

Let's be honest. If we hired Fangio over Pettine, everybody who's saying Pettine was the better choice right now would be saying Fangio was the best choice.

Well, some of us would accept the decision, regardless of the candidate, without the Knashing of teeth, that’s for sure.

Profootball reference page for Mike Pettine.

Those top 10 defenses in yards and points.   The drop in points on the defense also is likely related to the offense being ranked 29th and 30th in giveaways in those same years.

That's cool. You completely missed the point.

Nah, I know exactly what you meant, and it’s probably true.  I just didn’t make my point clear.  Some of us would be just as happy if Fangio were hired, AND, there’d be a few folks who’d lose their mind also. Point is, people fall in love with someone - for whatever reason - and then feel let down and make egregious claims.  It’s the nature of fandom.

I’m not against the hiring at all. Pettine has an impressive resume. My concern is when I read “complex” and that he is quoted as being willing to be multiple and do whatever scheme he needs to do... scares me. Only because we had something similar in Dom Capers scheme.

If we go with veterans and arent sooo heavy on rookies and undrafted free agents then I have no issues with this at all.

Love reading that his thing is pass defense though.

Seems like a guy very willing to tailor his approach to the players before him, though.

I'm not concerned about Polian's opinion on this.

Think this was a smokescreen.  MM got the guy he wanted.  Pettine is the man for the job.
