You must not have been watching closely. Kitchens was a buffoon who made irrational decisions and lost the lockeroom. You gotta cut a guy like that and not waste any more time.

And he didn't even get Vernon Davis' head on straight like Singletary at least did for us.

Should have sent Odell to the showers 8 weeks ago and taken the penalty for 10 men on the field

I'm shocked that GM Dorsey isn't on the hot seat more.

Not just referring to the Kitchens hire (which he absolutely owns, but):

-Going 1.1 on Baker

-Going away from 2018 draft / FA with no real viable replacement for Joe Thomas (finding Greg Robinson was later, and that's not great, but he didn't even have that post-draft & FA).

-Throwing away all the cap space Sashi Brown created for CLE

-Trading away Kevin Zeitler for a luxury item in Olivier Vernon.

Honestly, Dorsey owns this mess as much as Kitchens.   Kitchens definitely had to go - but honestly, Dorsey seems more part of the problem than the solution.

Honestly, cap space is the thing I have to push back on. There’s a lot of dead weight that will be cut and our cap space will skyrocket because of it. We’ve always had cap space.

Dorseys major screwups have been hiring Freddie and not replacing Joe T properly.

Nothing wrong with taking Baker 1.1

gonna be hard to replace a HoF tackle. Can’t fill every hole first year. Now he had a top10 pick to draft a LT

didnt throw away all the cap space. Gave out a lot of friendly contracts that he can actually get out of this offseason with no big hits. All the big contracts he signed his first offseason all have outs after this season

luxury guy? How is it a luxury to have a #2 DE? You need that in today’s league. It’s like it was a luxury to draft Chubb when you already have Miller than...

Dorsey does get to carry some blame but he put together a very talented roster. A roster that should have gone better than 6-10.

Your takes regarding the Browns are usually pretty fair but I gotta disagree with you on this one. Dorsey hasn't been perfect but he's done a good job at bringing in talent.

- Jury is out on Baker. Great rookie year and a disappointing second year (although he wasn't as bad as his stats indicate, IMO). We were going to go QB no matter what, and it's not like guys like Darnold have been amazing thus far or anything.

- We knew OL could be an issue this year, but our OL looked much better when Freddie took over as OC last year. That wasn't the case this year, but guys like Greg Robinson were serviceable believe it or not and he got another one-year prove it deal. He was a bum this year and I'm sure Dorsey will look to revamp the OL this offseason.

- We still have plenty of cap space. And many of the signings Dorsey has made were contracts we could easily get out of quickly (such as Hubbard, Carrie, etc.).

 - The Zeitler trade didn't work out for us, but adding a DE wasn't a "luxury". We needed another DE across from Garrett, but unfortunately Vernon didn't play particularly well and missed quite a bit of time this season. If we want, we can cut him this year.

If Dorsey screws up the next HC hire, then he obviously won't be around for any further HC searches.

I supported the hire because of how much success he had with a rookie QB and middling offense talent was last year (4th highest DVOA over the second half of the year iirc), but he flat out was out of his depth.

Maybe what your former OL coach said about Freddie and the offensive improvement in the second half of 2017 (that a lot of the other offensive assistants like Al Saunders and Ken Zampese did a lot of the work that Freddie was given credit for) had some truth to it?

Zampese for sure.

Freddie hired his buddy Lindley to “coach” Baker and it was awful.  His footwork is awful, mechanics in general are awful.

Freddie called an entirely different offense last year too.  Balanced, played to the strengths of the roster, unpredictable, aggressive down the field, etc.  This season he did literally none of those things for some reason.
