When was the last time the NFL MVP race was this wide open?

2001 was pretty close

  • 1999 MVP was Warner
  • 2000 MVP was Faulk
  • 2001 Warner beat Faulk 21.5 to 17.5 votes

1987 was so close that the wrong guy won it (it was 84 to zero obvious Rice without any doubt)

  • Rice got 30 votes
  • Montana was given 18 Rice votes for some reason.
    • Montana bulked up on 2 scab games and Young was a legit 10 TD 0 pick QB on the 49ers as well.
  • Elway somehow got 36 votes and won
  • Elway had 23 total TDs as a QB. Rice had 23 TDs as a WR

Is it really that wide open? You take the 1 & 2 seeds and whoever has the most passing TDs out of those teams. Almost always. It’s Brady or Stafford. Isn’t it?

Well the Bucs and Rams are the 4th and 5th seed right now so it wouldn't be either of them based on that

Love Kurt to death but he stole Faulk’s MVP in 01’.  A QB shouldn’t win it with 26 total turnovers.

Neither the Rams or Bucs are the 1 & 2 seeds right now.  We shall see.

Which ever elite team finishes strong and locks in the #1 seed is who I think will win MVP. Top 6 options from FanDuel :

  • Josh Allen/Buffalo (+200)
  • Tom Brady/Bucs (+300)
  • Stafford/Rams (+600)
  • Dak/Cowboys (+800)
  • Rodgers/Packers (+1000)
  • Lamar/Ravens (+1200)

Rodgers won't win it back to back years imo. I think it'll come down to Allen/Brady/Dak but it's really hard to say.
