No one is trading for Renfrow with a $13.7M cap hit in 2024.

Well that's wasn't my point, my point is they didn't have to cut him right now because they don't need the money, so for whatever reason they were holding on to him for, its not keeping us from signing whoever we want.

Random thought, I may be higher on Koonce this year than Crosby.

Call me crazy, but watching what he did after he was put in as after his snap count went way up the last 9 games then and lining him up next to Wilkins and across from Crosby. His progress has been overlooked even by raider fans. How good he was in those 9 games should have been eye popping.

He was literally tied with Crosby as the 7th best pass rushing DE since he started the last 9 games. I think he's going turn heads and become a household name this year.

Hope it wasn't a fluke run and he needs to get better in run support. But very encouraging to see him turn it loose.

If Koonce turns out to be a star, and Gruden was really in charge of the 1st round; then Mayock might have been a good GM

I think every die-hard Raiders fan is thinking something similar.  He's probably going to be a 10 sack per season type of player moving forward if he can build upon the last half of this past season.

That's why I'm always surprised when the media talks about T. Wilson and Maxx Crosby but never mention Koonce.  Koonce was a man on fire the second half of the season.

I pasted the below just to share his production against KC and LAC.  5 sacks, 2 stuffs, and 2 FF.  Dude was a man possessed when we played against division rivals.  I think we're about to see our sacks go from 40 in 2024 to 50+ this season.

Run support will probably always be an Achilles heel he’s not a very big man which is fine.

I think Koonce is super underappreciated. Why I’m really hoping we use some of the extra money we have right now to give him (and a few others) contract extensions before they get ultra-expensive.

would much rather do that then dishing out some of these ridiculous FA contracts being thrown around right now around the league.

Agree. Let’s keep this young, emerging core together with Maxx and Wilkins

I would try and tie down all of Koonce, Moehrig, Spillane, Hobbs and Jones

I was posting about extending Koonce when the regular season ended.  What would you offer?  3 yr $30 contract but that is a risk if the last nine games were a fluke.  It would also save a lot of money if he has turned the corner.  I would definitly start negotiations and at least he has the motivation to give everything he has this year.

I'm on the other end, I think it's more likely that last year was flukey then anything.

Personally, I don’t think it’s all that risky. It was obvious with Koonce from his rookie year he had the bend and explosion to be a pass rushing specialist, he’s added a bit more nuance and improved his run defence some so at the very least he’s a good rotational pass rush specialist, maybe a bit more. He simply needed the opportunities (how can all this forum know this and not the coaches?!?!?!) and now he’s gotten them he’s shown out. To me, he’s a more polished Benson Mayowa and that is definitely worth keeping around. He’s effectively #3 behind Crosby and Wilkins so a contract similar to the one you mentioned above would be deserving and not too onerous or limiting for the team. Maybe he’ll want more though and then we’d have to consider how much money we tie up into each level of the D.

I guess somewhere in that region - but I’d trying IOU’s voii I of probably start quite low, given the context. I would be of the mind to use a contract as a means to give him the feeling of security. That the organisation believe in him and want him to be a part of the future. I think such acts can play a part in raising a players performance over the long term. In a sense - giving a contract can give them that extra boost to go on and really establish yourself.

And I agree with @Darbsk - we’ve already seen plenty from him. There’s as much risk in waiting and he gets better and costs more than paying him now. You might even lose him if you don’t play it right.

Q asked on his UR podcast what the reasonable expectations are for Tyree Wilson now that he has a season under his belt, he is healthy, and he has two CLASS act professionals in his ear? Thoughts?

Hmm im fine with this as long as we are acknowledging that its because Crosby is drawing the the double team or getting chipped etc.

Koonce could definitely have more sacks, but Crosby will still be the better player, unless another massive jump by koonce.
Playing beside crosby and wilkins definitely will help though I agree.

The boys will be racing for sacks! Maxx gets a few sacks a season from hustle, and literally having no competition to steal them from him.. may not be the case anymore
