I'd love it given the terrible cap situation the Eagles are already in for the 2021 season.

I feel like people have said this for almost 5 years running now? Yet Howie always finds a way to manipulate the cap and the roster. Like this year with Peters, Sproles, Jenkins, Ajayi ,Agholor,  ect coming off the books. Next year will be a whole other slew of Veterans cap casualties.

Alshon, DeSean, Sudfeld, Malik, BG, Barnett, ect.

If you look at the past few drafts its clear they had a replacement plan in place for the future. Whether any and all are adequate,  remains to be seen.

Barnett- BG

Goedert- Ertz

JJAW- Alshon

Sanders- Blount/Ajayi

Dillard- Peters

Watkins/Hightower - Agholor

Reagor -Desean

Hurts - Sudfeld

Alshon - $8M

Desean - $5M

Goodwin - $5.8M

Barnett - $10M

Malik - $1.3M ($6.4M if post-June 1st)

Graham - $700K

Even with rollover, that’s a hefty amount over the cap. It’d also be gutting the WR core and DL (probably look for a restructure with Barnett). Philly’s going to have to go all-in on Wentz, do something with Ertz,  and kick the can down the road with Cox, if they want to do anything in free agency.

So yeah, I don’t think anyone is under the illusion that the Eagles won’t figure it out. But calling their situation “terrible” isn’t exactly far off either.

Fair enough. However the past two draft were set up "in hopes" of finding younger, cheaper replacements.  JJAW looked absolutely lost last season as Alshons hopeful replacement,  however we drafted 3 Speedsters this year while adding Goodwin as a Vet presence for the Desean/Agholor roles. Apparently attempting to change philosophies and go the KC speed kills route. In other words,  the complete opposite of last years Offense post Desean!

The Eagles absolutely suck at drafting the WR position,  have for almost three decades now. If we get lucky with finding at least 1 god forbid 2 WR's out of Reagor, JJ, Watkins, Hightower it wont be as drastic a downgrade IMO. Especially when considering the PS trash Wentz was forced to deal with as an entire group the 2nd 1/2 of last season.

June 1sting Malik gets us 10 Million. June 1sting Alshon gets us 13 Million.

Trade Ertz, cut Goodwin, Restructure Cox, and DeSean. Puts us at Just $2.5 Million over, and that's not accounting for any rollover. or cap going up from 17 games and increased revenue share (even if Cap is down for this year). Yeah we won't be able to make many moves in 2021, but we'll be alright.

June 1st doesn't solve the problem, it just pushes more of the dead cap to the following year, instead of the current one.

It helps the issue if you have more money in the following seasons.

How often do teams really fall apart due to going over the cap? The only team I can remember having really bad cap problems was the Titans in the mid-2000’s when they had to cut a bunch of dudes in their prime

Ravens post Flacco contract iirc. They didn't bottom out but it took them some time to get back to the Baltimore we know.

Meh....that was more the result of giving a largely mediocre QB a long term deal, defensive stars like Reed and Lewis retiring, the downfall of Ray Rice, and some weak drafting for a few years.

I dont recall them ever having major cap issues.   Sure, they lost a couple quality players, but no more often than they usually did.
