Maybe, but I am pretty sure I said the same thing right after it happened in the draft.  You and others were like oh so what, well now look at the situation...

It was a massive error then and turns out it might be an even bigger one now.  Crying over spilled milk?  Now it is actually about drafting well and not making stupid mistakes. But maybe you are ok with stupid mistakes.

In the end, I still have no issue with them not taking him.  And that position hasn't changed.  There's no guarantee that he would have been successful in this defense, especially when we need more speed on defense.  He would not have fixed that.   It's time to move on to where we go from here, not lament about what you believe was an error (which I don't agree with).

Yeah…a compound ankle fracture is an entirely foreseeable thing. How stupid of Kwesi 🤡

I am curious, was it Donatell's influence that lead the Vikings to not take Kyle Hamilton?  Did he think he was too slow?  Or was it a GM choice to save money and they thought Hamilton was damaged goods because he was hurt a bit in college?

That was a massive mistake, the guy is a freak show rookie and can do so much, cover the slot, cover the TE, blitz, drop back deep, tackle in the open field etc.  He was better than Lewis Cine in college and he is better than Cine as a pro, no way Cine would have been as productive or as impactful as a rookie like Hamilton was.  In a way lucky for Hamilton he was not drafted here, he would have just been asked to sit back deep in coverage and would have never been put on attack.  Maybe they thought Hamilton was slow and Cine was fast because he ran well at the combine, Hamilton sure does not look slow in these highlights.

Are we going to get these posts in every thread? It's not relevant here.

Requested interview with Flores is starting the DC search off with a bang, that's for sure. I think my top 3 are; Leonhard, Flores, and Desai.

I'd love Flores - great coordinator and also has the additional element of potentially netting the Vikings two 3rd round picks if he becomes a HC again

Of the current NFL candidates, Flores intrigues me given his history coaching 3-4 schemes.  SB winner when he catches for the Patriots, plus he has experience with Mike Tomlin . . . A team that got to 9-8 on a season they had no reason to try -- other than to win.

Preferring the 4-3, the coach id like the most as DC is Andre' Patterson.   He knows how to win in the trenches . . . Like we didn't witness that last week.  It'd be sweet, to me, having him back.

For college guys, I've stated some liking of Glenn Schumann, Georgia's co-DC.  Another would be Alex Grinch, if for no other reason than his name fits the position.  He's coached some good Ds in college, but I think he could stand to tighten up schemes and gameplans if he were trying the NFL.

It is relevant, because I was asking a question of how much input did Donatell have in that choice to trade away that draft pick.  Was it because Donatell did not like him at safety, and all this he is slow talk and he would not fit, well obviously he fits with any team that plays football in the NFL of today.  If Donatell was involved it would add to the list of things he did incorrectly, and I would hope he was involved because then one can put the blame on him instead of the GM who is still here.

In terms of college DCs that would go to the NFL, no one really stands out in that regard outside of Jim Leonhard being #1.  Ryan Walters is one of the up and coming coaches and was the DC on Illinois and now the HC at Purdue but I do not think he would make the jump to the NFL.

Hopefully with Donatell goes some of the assistant defensive coaches that were sub par and I did not like the hires when they happened.  The coaches kid in Steve is an obvious, but then Daronte Jones who was not very good as the DC at LSU, and Chris Rumph who is nothing compared to Andre Patterson.  Hope both those guys are out and they bring in better ones.

Steve Donatell (quality control)
Daronte Jones (DB coach)  Former Viking DB coach and LSU DC
Chris Rumph (DL coach)

One they should keep would be Smith, his unit actually performed and produced, pretty much the only unit on the defense, the starting edge guys did well and so did the backups.

Mike Smith (LB and pass rush specialist)

Looking through Twitter, Flores has interviewed for the HC job with the Cardinals, he’s interviewed for the DC position with the Falcons, and requests for interviews were put in by Cleveland and Minnesota.

With Cleveland already hiring Jim Schwartz, the Falcons look to be the Vikings only competition if they want Flores’ services. There’s no competition if he’s offered Arizona’s head job.
