...The other unseen detriment to having such tall guys on the interior line is because at a certain point even when crouching they are too high for the QB to see over. This is usually only a problem with someone along the lines of a Bryce Young or a Kyler Murray or even an old school Doug Flutie, but only the cement-legged dinosaurs of a bygone age will have the height to potentially see over a guard or center that is around 6'7 or taller, which takes away the middle of the field in the passing attack.

That's a helpful observation.

I think this is interesting.  Gute has stacked up a handful of tall guys.  Of the 16 o-linemen, there are four guys in the 6'7-6'9 range.  Given the Packer priority on positional flexibility, it's interesting to have that many tackle-only long guys.  Also interesting that with 6'4" being the minimum for an o-line guy, three of our starters are at that minimum (Bakhti, Runyan, and Tom).  These are round-inch numbers, taken from https://www.nfl.com/teams/green-bay-packers/roster.  I admit by observation I'd have thought that Tom was more than an inch shorter than Jenkins and Myers.

  1. 6'7-6'9":  Jones (6'9"), Tenuta (6'8"), Nijman (6'7"), Telfort (6'7")
  2. 6'6". Walker
  3. 6'5"  Jenkins, Myers, Newman, Rhyan
  4. 6'4". Bakhti, Tom, Runyan, Schneider, Delance, Empey, Hanson

This is who I think has made the team so far:

Jordan Love, Sean Clifford, Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft, David Bakhtiari, Zach Tom, Elgton Jenkins, Josh Myers, Jon Runyan Jr, Yosh Nijman, Kenny Clark, Colby Wooden, Karl Brooks, TJ Slaton, Devonte Wyatt, Preston Smith, Lukas Van Ness, Rashan Gary, Kingsley Enagbare, De'Vondre Campbell, Quay Walker, Isiah McDuffie, Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, [Eric Stokes], Darnell Savage, Anders Carlson, Pat O'Donnell, Matt Orzech. *specialists may change, but we are keeping 3.  That is 36 counting Stokes.

That gives me 17 spots to play with.  Of note, I only have one safety, three WRs, two RBs, and two TEs.  I think easy adds to this group are:  Samouri Toure, Dontayvion Wicks, Rasheed Walker, Caleb Jones, Jonathan Ford, Eric Wilson, and Dallin Leavitt.  Leaving 10 more spots to field the team.  And that still includes another safety just to field a starting defense.

Final 10 in order of preference:

1. Rudy Ford - We need a safety.  I don't think any have stood out in preseason, or from what I have seen or read, but Ford put together a few good games last season, and I am going to roll with this again.

2.  Brenton Cox - We all know the potential, to me the Pats game more or less solidified his spot.  He is not a finished product, but he was winning quite a bit last night against what I think was the starting OL.  Keep this guy around.

3.  Malik Heath - I am always the keep 5 WRs guy.  But he keeps making plays.

4.  Anthony Johnson Jr - I have to fill out the safety spot.  I think he is the most talented of the remaining safeties.

5.  Sean Rhyan - He got his redshirt season.  He looks a lot better than he did last season.  I think you keep him as the primary back-up at guard.  I am already keeping three extra tackles.  I believe that between Tom, JRJ, and Jenkins we have a back-up center if we need it.  But I prefer to keep some kind of interior back up as well.  It becomes pretty thin if Tom were to get injured.  This gives me 9 on the OL.

6.  Patrick Taylor - You knew I am keeping my boy here.  Plays teams, is adequate from scrimmage.  Pretty easy.

7.  Emanuel Wilson - Dave, you sneaky son of a *****! Yeah, Mr.  RBs aren't real people is keeping 4.  Wilson has been one of the stars of preseason and is rewarded with a roster spot.  He offers some juice that Taylor doesn't, and I am going with only 3 TEs, which allows for an extra RB.

8.  Josiah Deguara - He plays teams.  He can play in-line TE and FB.  Not my favorite player, but I believe that his ticket was punched the moment Davis got injured.  I don't think we win any games because of Josiah Deguara.  I know we don't lose any because he is playing though.

9.  Justin Hollins - Throwing a bone to coach Barry.  Hollins has played a lot of first team snaps while Gary has been down.  I think he is probably better than Brenton Cox at the moment, and you can never have too many pass rushers.  I think he can eat snaps early in the season while Van Ness and Cox are still learning and Gary is probably on a pitch count.

10.  Innis Gaines - I want a back-up at that slot CB position.  I think I like SJC better as the pure CB, but Gaines offers a lot of versatility having also played safety and plays a lot of special teams as well.

QB 2, RB 4, WR 6, TE 3, OL 9, DL 6, Edge 6, ILB 4, CB 6, S 4, specialist 3 = 24 Offense, 26 Defense, 3 specialists.

I think we play fast and loose with the IR and PS stuff with WRs and RBs, adding anyone to the active roster probably means releasing Wilson, Heath, or Taylor.  Most difficult cuts for me were Luke Tenuta, SJC, and Tariq Carpenter.  Grant Dubose runs in 4th, but I feel like he is Charles Johnson.  If we lose him, we will be disappointed, but it isn't a disaster, especially with the depth we have at the WR position.

My 53 after the first preseason game:

QB: Love-Clifford

RB: Jones-Dillon

WR: Watson-Doubs-Reed-Toure-Wicks-Heath

TE: Deguara-Musgrave-Kraft

OL: Bakh-Jenkins-Myers-Runyan-Tom-Nijman-Rhyan-Hanson-Jones

DL: Clark-Slaton-Wyatt-Wooden-Brooks-Ford

EDGE: Gary-Smith-Van Ness-Hollins-Enagbare-Cox

ILB: Campbell-Walker-McDuffie-Wilson-Carpenter

CB: Alexander-Douglas-Stokes-Nixon-Valentine-Ballentine

S: Savage-Ford-Moore-Owens-Leavitt

Specialists get you to 53.

Davis injury gets Wilson on the team at ILB due to ST. Ballentine and Leavitt make the team for ST too.

2 RBs, 2 TEs, 2-3 OL on the PS, called up for gamedays in the early part of the season. Injuries will get someone on IR and you can promote Goodson/Wilson/Allen to the active roster then. If a team feels confident in the off field stuff with Cox, I just don't see him making it through waivers so he gets spot #53. Less worried about Goodson/Wilson/Allen getting claimed. Melton, DuBose to PS at the WR spot, Heath/Wicks battle it out on ST for the GameDay active #5 WR.

As far as claims on our end, I would look for a quality IOL, Newman was OK year one, bad year 2 and last night might have been the worst I've seen him. Otherwise I'd roll with the 53 we have at the other spots.

Hanson cut for Walker and Ballentine cut for Anthony Johnson Jr, Eric Wilson cut for Patrick Taylor. Those are my changes for this week.

PS candidates: McGough, Goodson, Emmanuel Wilson, Melton, DuBose, Allen, Tenuta, Hanson, Phillips, Eric Wilson, Banks, Mosby, Ballentine

Emmanuel Wilson looks fine as a pass-catch guy, yes?  He's a stocky guy:  may not have any blocking skill or smarts, (yet), but he's not too small for it.  Not sure he needs a 53-spot, but I'd like to imagine/hope he'll be able to train into the blocking tasks, and be useful long-term.  Same probably with ST, I'd like to think by next year he could be trained up for some ST function.

You're keeping six safeties? Seems overkill since they are all so ordinary.

Think this might be the best offense and defense roster, but I can't see Rich B sitting in that room after losing Davis and letting them cut Patrick Taylor, Eric Wilson and Corey Ballentine. Think 2/3 of those guys make this team based solely on his demands.

He's playing Johnson Jr on specials a lot, think that cancels out Ballentine potentially. Then I swapped one of those guys for the other, lol but continue to allow me to live in your head rent free.

Honestly out of your selections I'd probably replace Owens with Johnson instead, unless Owens is really contributing on ST in a way I can't see. I just don't know who the remaining go-to guys at gunner are outside of Ballentine.

Haha, you're funny. One day your telling people how something won't happen and days later you're wishy-washy and change your mind, but it's all cool.

Has he fallen off in your opinion that you put him here?  I assumed he’s the clear cut 2nd spot for us at safety after Savage.  I know he’s bounced around the league a bit but Ford had multiple big play INTs last season for us.  Maybe he has found his niche with us similar to Sul.

I think Ford has to be the runaway favorite for the No. 2 safety spot unless AJJ comes out of nowhere the last two weeks. Ford is a step above both Owens and Moore.
