Mini TCMD - Discussion Thread

As always, I'm looking for feedback to make improvements for next years mini version should we pursue it as a second mock draft.  Next year, we'll get back to the original version of TCMD, but I still think we can benefit from discussing a little bit about this mock to perhaps make improvements to the OG version.

Questions:

  1. In the Draft board workbook, I included hyperlinks with the player names to load their youtube highlights.
    1. Did you find it useful?
  2. Were the private team workbooks any better and adding and removing players to manage your salary cap and roster info?
    1. Any suggestions on making them more user friendly?
  3. Under the mini rules, we opened up the ability to trade players that were extended or restructured.  I personally benefited from it twice, once in the trade for Kevin Zeitler.  Trading him after the restructure saved me millions because after the restructure only his base salary of the vet min was applied to my cap.  I also benefited from it when I worked a deal with Miami, for Robert Quinn.  Miami still had an extension left which it cost me a higher value draft pick but after the extension his high cap was decreased down to a much more manageable amount.
    1. Now in the original tcmd version, most teams wouldn't want to trade a player that they just extended or restructured because of the dead money hit they would take, but the Great Gettleman in trading Odell in the same season he was given a massive extension shows that some teams are willing to risk it all and do it.
    2. What do you guys think about adding this into the original tcmd?  Or would you rather see it removed from both versions?
  4. For the mini version, I did find the one year fa deals to be like rapid fire contracts but it was still a lot of fun.  I don't think it took away to much from the fun of making complex multi year deals.  However, I would like to see the APY used as a base and bonus.  Having the bonus added creates a way to include dead money, which I think should be included.  It was so easy to create cap space in this version that I actually had to refrain at times.  I went from about 20 million in cap to over 55 million making a couple transactions.
  5. I think we should reduce the number of extensions and restructures at least in this mini version and perhaps even the orig. version.

Anyway, I would really appreciate the feedback as it allows us to make improvements.

I'm sure I left things off so feel free to include them in your response.  Look forward to reading your replies.

Thanks for participating in TCMD, wouldn't be possible without your support and dedication.

Cards through free agency and trade added

Antonio Brown, Demaryius Thomas, Rodger Saffold, Denzel Perryman, Margus Hunt, Frostee Rucker, EJ Gaines, Markus Golden, Jordon Mills, and Mike Mitchell

In addition to who the actual Cardinals added in Charles Clay, Robert Alford, DJ Swearinger, and Marcus Gilbert.

Then I drafted Nick Bosa, Anthony Nelson, Josh Oliver, Michael Jackson Sr., Paul Adams, Jazz Ferguson, Ugochukwu Amadi, Tyre Brady, Devine Ozigbo

Honestly I'd feel INCREDIBLE if the Cardinals had pulled this off

I like the Bills, Colts, Jaguars, Steelers, and Buccaneers as the top 5 drafts.

With the number 5 pick in the 1ST round the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select: Montez Sweat, DE
With the number 7 pick in the 2ND round the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select: *Josh Jacobs, RB
With the number 3 pick in the 3RD round the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select: *David Edwards, OT
With the number 6 pick in the 3RD round the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select: Michael Deiter, OT
With the number 5 pick in the 4TH round the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select: Darnell Savage Jr., CB

Is pretty slick for the Buccaneers without looking at their FA and any trades. Sweat would be a massive upgrade at edge, then landed the best back followed by two teammate tackles that are in range and then a good safety late.

Then the Jags first 5 picks completely change their offense. Like Greg Little might not make it, but if he does his upside is amazing. Haskins to be the QB and adding Lodge and Harris at RB and WR is a good look. Erik McCoy is very good and picked a round later than he should have.

Bucs are a good one too. I love the Jacobs and Savage picks. I really don't like Sweat at #5. He was a player in the late 1st before the combine and now he is top 5? I get wary of players like that

Bengals posted their final roster and practice squad in the depth chart thread.

At the beginning of this the Bengals were undecided between a tear down and trying to win now.  We did some of both. We replaced Dalton with Nick Foles for the present and also got Kyler Murray for the future.  We paid up for Trent Brown as a RT to replace the terrible Bobby Hart. We also upgraded the RG spot with Fusco and TE with Cook.

Teryl Austin's defense was terrible last year and he got fired midseason of year 1 which is rare for the Bengals. We're switching to a 3-4. I hoped to get Dexter Lawrence as the NT but didn't want to take him at 11 and couldn't swing a deal to move up from 42. So we got Greg Gaines in round 3. We let Preston Brown walk and dumped Burfict and now have Zach Brown at 1 inside position and Teo/Ryan at the other. Hubbard and Lawson are natural stand up OLBs who can both pass rush.

We improved the CB depth considerably by re-signing Dennard, adding McCourty and bringing back Shaw.

The defense will remain a work in progress but the offense should be pretty good.

If it works, yeah...that's the idea.  xD

Had a kinda weird draft.  It wasn't at all what i went in intending to do...but things just kinda kept falling my way and i decided to roll with it.

Like i went out and traded for Tannehill pre-draft specifically so i wouldn't find myself pigeonholed into drafting a QB at 7 or trading up or reaching there expecting Haskins to be gone already.  And then Haskins fell into my lap and tossed a huge curveball in my whole draft.  But i wasn't gonna just let that slide.  Bigger upside than anyone else i could've picked at 7 by far, if he pans out.  Put me off balance on draft plan though.

Little too, is probably a big "upside" gamble...but i went in looking to add a starting OT.  Whether it's a RT or a LT who moves Cam Robinson to RT...kind of expected it'd just be a RT-only sort of guy i'd be able to grab, but with Little...it really could go either way with his upside at LT.

Then with R3 it was like...i wanted to add another IOL with one of the picks to finish the group out, but figured it'd be a RG probably.  With McCoy though, it was a plug 'n play starting Center, and it's easy as heck to move Brandon Linder back to RG instead where he can play at a Pro Bowl level.

Love the way my OLine ended up rounding out as a potentially dominant group:

Robinson - Norwell - McCoy - Linder - Little

*possibly flipping the bookend tackles.

Weird the way i ended up triple-dipping in Mississippi like that, and kinda makes my scouting look lazy like i only watched one team or something.  xD  But it just legitimately kept coming up Rebels on my board.  I like Little as a R1 talent i got in R2.  Lodge was the last of the "Day 2" receivers i had left, who i legitimately thought about taking at my earlier 3rd rounder if not for the value of McCoy at a position of want.  And Dawson Knox was exactly the TE with receiving upside i was looking to add after grabbing Jesse James and Tyler Kroft as solid but unspectacular starters in FA.
