Recommended Posts

This thread allows you to provide a detailed overview of your team's off season transactions.  @Daniel suggested this addition and I think it's a great idea, because I love reading GM's reasoning for their transactions.

I'll start adding all of the transaction info in this post such as released players, free agency additions, drafted players, tags, restructures, extensions, trades, etc.

I'll also include links to forms for voting on each round of the draft as well as a form for voting on various awards.

Please reserve one post for your team and edit as needed.

Thanks.

Chiefs

(outside) -  Not currently slotted to make the 53 Man Roster, but in battle.

Offense

 (2)QB  – Patrick Mahomes /  Shane Buechele
               (outside: Joshua Dobbs)

(4)RB  -- Isaiah Pacheco //  Jerrick McKinnon  //  Tank Bigsby®  //  Chris Rodriguez®
               (outside:  Nyheim Hines)

(7)WR --  Allen Lazard  //  Marquez Valdes-Scantling  //  Mecole Hardman  //  Kadarius Toney  //  Skyy Moore  //  Cedric Tillman®  //  Marvin Mims®
(outside:  Justin Watson  //  Justyn Ross)

(4)TE --  Travis Kelce //  Noah Gray  //  Jody Forston  //  Michael Burton

(9)OL -  Orlando Brown  // Joe Thuney  //  Creed Humphry  // Trey Smith  // Lucas Niang  //  James Hurst  //  Nick Allegretti  //  Jordan McFadden®  // Carter Warren®
(outside:  George Fant  //  Darian Kinnard)

Changes from 2022:

Out:  Juju Smith-Schuster  //  Andrew Wylie
In:  Allen Lazard // James Hurst

Outside of retaining some guys, finding replacements for Juju and Wylie were really the only goals we had heading into FA.    Lazard slides perfectly into our offense at the X,   typically the 3rd option in our passing offense we’re confident he will slide into that possession guy we lost.    Hurst, while not a star, is on par for what Wylie typically gave us.  He will have a nice battle with Lucas Niang for the starting RT spot.

Rookie Additions:   While we didn’t necessarily add anyone that will have a starting role right away, but like the offensive group we brought in.   With Lazard on a one year deal, Tillman will have plenty of time to learn the offense and grow into that future X receiver.   Mims, imo is a Hardman clone, with better deep ball tracking.   He will likely be a gameday inactive most of the year and fill into if Toney is injured.   He is scheduled to slide into Hardman’s role in 2024.  Carter Warren excels where we need him, in Pass Pro.  While the top 3 spots are locked up at T, we like his future at Swing T that excels where we need it most.      Doubling up a RB might seem odd,   but we like both RB’s skillsets to fit into the committee.   The one Achilles heal for the Chiefs offense last year was short yardage,  I believe we were sitting at under 40% conversion rate on 3rd and 1.   Bigsby and Rodriguez both run strong behind their pads and know how to pick up the hidden yardage,    Rodriguez will immediately slot into our short yardage package.

2024 Offense
QB: Mahomes /  Buechele
RB:  Pacheco // Bigsby /  Rodriguez
WR:  Tillman  / Toney / Skyy Moore / Marvin Mims
TE:  Kelce/  N. Gray
LT:  Brown / Warren
LG: Thuney / McFadden
😄  Humphrey
RG: Smith / McFadden
RT: Niang / Warren

2024 Needs:  3rd Down back
                         #1 Receiver
                         Future TE
                         Interior OL Depth

Defense/ST

(5)Edge:  Za’Darius Smith  //  George Karlaftis  //  Mike Danna //  BJ Ojulari®  //  Isaiah Foskey®
               (outside:  Melvin Ingram)

(5)DT:  Chris Jones //  Matt Ioanndis  //  Khalen Saunders //  Tershawn Wharton  //  Cameron Young®
               (outside:  William Gholston)

(4)LB:  Nick Bolton  // Willie Gay  //  Leo Chenal  //  EJ Speed
              (outside:  Darius Harris)

(5)CB:  L’Jarius Sneed //  Trent McDuffie  //  Jaylen Watson  //  Joshua Williams  //  Jaylon Jones
(outside:  Antonio Hamilton  // Justin Bethel)
(5)S:   Juan Thornhill  //  Justin Reid  //  Bryan Cook  // Keanu Neal  // Nazeeh Johnson

(1)K:  Harrison Butker
(1)P:  Tommy Townsend
(1)LS:  James Winchester

Changes from 2022:

Out:  Frank Clark  //  Carlos Dunlap  //  Derrick Nnadi
In:  Za’Darius Smith  //  Matt Ioanndis  //  EJ Speed  // Keanu Neal

Opposite from our offensive approach of trying to retain guys, we really wanted to build up the depth along the DL this year.   Za’Darius Smith is better than Frank Clark, and we finally give Chris Jones a good running mate inside with Matt Ioannidis.    EJ Speed and Keanu Neal will be core special teamers,  but with the youth on this defense we felt it was better to get some veteran presence into position groups.

Rookie Additions:   Some might say we overdid it at Edge, but we have Ojulari and Foskey rated as Late 1st round guys.   Neither are currently slated, or expected to start but we like both to step into Pass Rushing situations as the season progresses.  Chris Jones is really the only DL that has consistently won one on ones for years, with Ojulari and Foskey’s skillsets we want to change this in future years.      Cameron Young and Jaylon Jones are the only other rookie additions.   Jaylon Jones is still very young, with an intriguing skillset as a Press Man CB/Cover 3.   His immediate production will be as a gunner and ST ace.      Cameron Young is kind of slept on as a DT prospect, run stopping DT’s that don’t weigh above 310 typically slide, but we love his ability to hold the 1T spot with his 34” arms.   Between Jones/Ioannadis/Saunders/Wharton, he will likely be a game day inactive most of the year, but we think he can have a DJ Jones type rise as a run stopper with some seasoning.

2024 Defense

Edge:  Karlaftis  / Ojulari / Foskey
DT:  Jones / Ioanndis /  C. Young
LB:  Bolton / Chenal / Speed
CB:  McDuffie / Watson / Williams / Jones
S: Reid / Thornhill / Cook / N. Johnson

K: H. Butker
P: T. Townsend
LS: J. Winchester

2024 Needs
Retain L. Sneed & W. Gay
Edge
DT

Overview

Needs ranked heading into 2024 FA;
1) Retain Sneed
2) Retain W. Gay
3) #1 WR
4) Edge
5)DL

Aside from retaining L. Sneed and W. Gay,  moving into next year we really just need to focus on adding High End Talent along the DL and WR.

6) 3rd Down Back
7) Future TE
😎 Interior IOL

NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS

I started out the season with a war room and a coGM.  All of which couldn't agree on anything.  War room lead to a trade to acquire receiver, Diontae Johnson for a 3rd and 5th round pick this year and a 3rd next year.

Then my coGM and I were having issues on the direction of the team, so I stepped down giving him total control of the team.  He had full control of the team up to round 6 at which time he was removed for non activity, so the team missed out on free agency additions for two bidding rounds, 4 and 5.

The team acquired  the following players during the first 5 rounds, which wasn't bad picks, but we missed out on so many players because of our disagreements.

Ethan Pocic
Julian Love
Fabian Moreau
Tremaine Edmunds
Odell Beckham Jr.
Jaylon Smith
Cody Barton
Jon Feliciano
Alex Singleton
David Montgomery
Marcus Peters
Sterling Shepard

Round 6 is when I acquired the team again after inactivity and wasn't able to do much at this point in the mock.

Le'Raven Clark
Jakobi Meyers
Darius Slayton
Ezekiel Elliott
Kamu Grugier-Hill
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo
Rasheem Green
Frank Clark
Malcolm Roach
Nicholas Williams
Richie James
David Wells
Garrett Gilbert
Milo Eifler
Will Redmond
Nate Gerry
Eric Saubert
Mike Pennel
Jake Bailey

The team literally looks like 3 people have managed it sadly.  Like Dave Gettleman is back at the helm.  After taking the team back over, I tried to pick up players that I could fit into various scheme packages.  So this year, I'd expect to see based on this roster a lot of sub packages, players running on and off the field based on down and distance.

While some may not agree with my selections, I really like what I've been able to do in the draft.  Got the big body receiver that I think will work out well in this offense.  Got the team their future running back in Achane.  While this first year, I've got a solid 3 man crew in Zeke, David Montgomery and the rookie.  Mike Morris in the 4th round is solid imo.  Can provide the team with a player that can go inside or outside depending on the blitz package.  This last pick in the 5th gives us depth at corner.  Undersized but I like his physical abilities.  Looking forward to this next two rounds.

1st Rnd - #20 | Quentin Johnston - WR - NYG - @ny92mike
2nd Rnd - #30 | Devon Achane - RB - NYG - @ny92mike
4th Rnd - #15 | Mike Morris - IDL - NYG - @ny92mike
5th Rnd - #40 | Mekhi Blackmon - CB - NYG - @ny92mike
6th Rnd - Pick 32 | Overall: 209 | NYG
6th Rnd - Pick 41 | Overall: 218 | NYG
7th Rnd - Pick 23 | Overall: 242 | NYG
7th Rnd - Pick 26 | Overall: 245 | NYG
7th Rnd - Pick 36 | Overall: 255 | NYG

All in all, this is not the roster I was thinking I'd end up with at the end of the year, but all things considered when I look at this roster I think it is improved from the previous year.

I think I've upgraded positions that were issues the previous year, but I still wasn't able to fix it all.

Offensive line we added a center in Ethan Pocic, this will likely get more attention with these late round picks.

Edge -  Added some much needed veteran leadership and experience in Frank Clark.

Receiver - First round pick on Quentin Johnston, trading for Diontae Johnson, resigned Richie James and Sterling Shepard (although I wouldn't have done this last one)

Running back - Losing Barkley hurt.  If it was allowed I would have done what the Giants actually did and tag him but I had to lock Daniel Jones in over Barkley.  Replacing him is Zeke, the rookie Devon Achane and D. Montgomery.  Not sure I'd call this a wash or not but having a fresh back on every down can't be a bad thing.

Cornerback - My coGM signing Marcus Peters helps this unit that struggled last year.  I would have targeted another cornerback but regardless he's an upgrade over what we had.

Linebacker - It's the one position that we missed out on in both FA and the draft.  Nothing went right in our pursuit for a middle linebacker.  Sadly, Nate Gerry was the best I could do.  I'm still looking to find that diamond in the rough with these next draft picks.  Otherwise I'm hoping that someone is willing to trade me or they release one.

I'm hoping my team has a better offseason than I've done.

DALLAS COWBOYS

I joined the TCMD mock offseason late in this process, right at the time where FA bidding was limited to 1 year contracts, with many of them being veteran minimum salaries, filling in for another member who had already started managing the team, but did a great job prior to me joining TCMD.

Overall, I agreed with the general direction he was taking with the roster in terms of the major moves he made:

  1. Re-signing Tony Pollard to a long-term deal
  2. Restructuring the contracts of Dak Prescott, Demarcus Lawrence, and Michael Gallup to create cap space
  3. Designating Ezekiel Elliott as a June 1st cut
  4. Trading for Shaq Thompson on an expiring deal, exchanging the 58th overall and 90th overall selections for Shaq Thompson, the 61st overall pick, and 93rd overall pick.

Notable free agent signings prior to me joining TCMD:

DT Dalvin Tomlinson - presumed starter at NT

DT Poona Ford - can compete with Tomlinson for starting NT job

CB Tremon Smith - starting returner and additional depth at CB

K Eddy Pineiro - starting kicker

Notable cuts prior to me joining TCMD:

EDGE Takkarist McKinley

CB Mackenzie Alexander

CB Xavier Rhodes

CB Jourdan Lewis

My main offseason objectives prior to the draft:

1. Generate more cap space to be aggressive in free agency - this was primarily accomplished by designating Tyron Smith as the second allowed June 1st cut (cleared about 4 million in cap space), along with a few other smaller releases (Will Grier, Devante Bond, Sheldrick Redwine, Antonio Callaway) over the course of the FA bidding rounds.

2. Addressing needs prior to the draft in free agency so the focus can be on BPA - my attempt to fulfill these was moderately successful as evidenced below

  • WR - biggest success in FA for me as I accomplished my goal to bring in two more starting caliber WRs in Juju Smith-Schuster and Robert Woods; in conjunction with CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup now as WR4 on the depth chart (with later free agent signing John Brown competing for this spot), this group has depth and versatility with multiple guys who can play both outside and in the slot; this allowed me to focus on other positions in the draft early on.
  • RB - Leonard Fournette brings a solid veteran presence (one can argue an upgrade over Ezekiel Elliott as RB2) behind Tony Pollard, who is still recovering from his fractured fibula and high ankle sprain but should be back to 100% by the season starting time
  • CB - was able to add some depth at CB, but missed out on Patrick Peterson, who could have slid in at CB2 and started alongside Trevon Diggs; then shifted focus to depth at outside CB (Artie Burns) and bringing in some additional camp bodies
  • LG - A.J. Cann was one of the few options available with starting experience and is a below average to average starting guard in this league, John Leglue brings additional depth to the position
  • TE - after losing Dalton Schultz in free agency, was able to mitigate this blow by bringing in Tyler Higbee and Marcedes Lewis on one year deals. Higbee is inconsistent but has upside as a receiving TE in place of Schultz, and Lewis is one of the better blocking TE in the league, which will only help establish the running game even more
  • RT - after releasing Tyron Smith, brought in Charles Leno Jr. who is a slightly above average starting tackle and can hold the fort down until Terrence Steele (RFA tendered) comes back from injury; there is an obvious downgrade from Tyron Smith (when healthy) but the biggest ability is availability at this juncture
  • LB - brought in two veteran LB in Nick Kwiatkoski and Tyler Matakevich to provide depth. Kwiatkoski has starting experience at MIKE LB and can compete with projected starter Damone Clark for that role, while Micah Parsons and Shaq Thompson man the SAM and WILL starting spots. Matakevich is a solid special teams player and additional depth at OLB in case of injury. Losing Leighton Vander Esch is a bit of a blow, but the current group as a whole should be able to perform respectably in his absence.
  • QB - brought in two veteran QBs in Andy Dalton (age 35, 12 years experience) and Joe Flacco (age 38, 15 years experience) to replace Cooper Rush who left in free agency. Flacco at this stage is likely just a glorified QB coach at QB3, but Dalton is coming off a decent season for a high end backup (18 TD to 9 INT, 95.2 QBR) with the Saints and should be able to spot start a few games if need be as QB2

Draft Class and Analysis:

Round 1 (26th overall pick) - Cam Smith CB South Carolina - There was an immediate need for a starting CB going into the draft, after missing out on Patrick Peterson in free agency to the Browns. This did force my hand as I was approaching the offseason with a win-now approach and a narrow window to compete in the NFC with this core. I ended up approaching the early portion of the draft with a BPA at position of need mindset rather than just BPA. Smith was the BPA at CB on my board and last guy I had a solid 1st round grade on. He needs to work on cutting down his penalties, but otherwise should be able to slide right in at CB2.

Round 2 (57th overall pick) - Steve Avila LG TCU - I was able to execute a trade up with the Giants for the 57th overall pick by packaging the 61st overall pick (RB Devon Achane) with two 5th round picks (170th and 176th overall selections which were used on P Adam Korsak and CB Mekhi Blackmon respectively). While AJ Cann is passable as a low end starting guard, I wanted to bolster the IOL early in the draft to solidify the offensive line and better establish the run game. With John Michael Schmitz and Cody Mauch both off the board, Avila was the best IOL on my board by far with the versatility of playing LG, RG, and C and I sensed he would not have lasted to 61 without the aggressive move up. He played LG this past season and slides into the starting LG role on this offense as a rookie.

Round 3 (83rd overall pick) - J.L. Skinner S Boise State - The third safety is essentially a starter in Dan Quinn's defense and after Donovan Wilson's departure in free agency, the opportunity is wide open for Skinner to carve out quality playing time as a rookie and fill that role on defense. Considering both Malik Hooker and Jayron Kearse are on expiring deals, Skinner could in theory slide into one of the full time starting slots long-term, in the event one or both incumbent starters could not be brought back. Another aggressive trade, this time from 93rd overall to 83rd overall by packaging the 129th overall pick (WR Rakeem Jarrett) to secure Skinner after Jordan Battle went off the board with the 82nd pick.

Round 5 (163rd overall pick) - Eric Gray RB Oklahoma -  After a run on RBs was started earlier in the 5th round, the Cowboys were able to still land Gray in the 5th round, who provides upside as both a runner and a receiver out of the backfield, creating a 3 headed monster in the RB rotation with Tony Pollard and Leonard Fournette, who was brought on a 1-year deal in free agency.

Round 6 (212th overall pick) - Jaren Hall QB BYU - While not an immediate need, this is perhaps the best value pick for the Cowboys in the draft, after bringing in two veteran QBs in free agency in Andy Dalton and Joe Flacco to back up Dak Prescott. Hall is undersized for a starting QB, but has a solid but not elite arm, decent accuracy, above average athleticism, and intangibles that make him a high-upside developmental QB prospect and should provide him with a high floor as a solid backup QB.

Round 7 (246th overall pick) - Jay Ward S LSU - Versatile defensive back who started out as a CB for LSU before being moved to safety his last two seasons. Ward has the build and skillset reminiscent of former LSU 7th round pick Jalen Mills, who carved out a career for himself as a low end starter at both CB and S. He needs to bulk up and work on his tackling to play at safety but as a converted CB is solid in coverage, and could potentially be moved back to CB and be a solid nickel CB.

UDFA:

Anthony Johnson - CB - Virginia

Arquon Bush - CB - Cincinnati

Christian Braswell - CBN - Rutgers

Tavius Robinson - EDGE - Ole Miss

Anfernee Orji - OLB - Vanderbilt

Richard Gouraige - OT - Florida

Buffalo Bills GIFs | Tenor

Had to take over as the Bills GM the day RFA bids were due, was 26+ million over the cap, so had to figure things out on the fly.  I knew immediately I would not be able to retain Tremaine Edmunds and Jordan Poyer.

First action was restructuring the contracts of Josh Allen, Dion Dawkins and Matt Milano.  Also traded Ed Oliver to the Texans for round 3 pick 10 to clear 10 million in cap space.  Looking back, could have gotten move value for Oliver, but I was learning and scrambling.

Tennessee Titans

Offseason Goals: Titans start in cap hell, and with a ton of free agents, so the first goal is get under the cap to start the soft rebuild.  Then, the goal is to revamp an awful group of receiving weapons and build an offensive line, almost from scratch.  For defense, the goal is if it ain't broke don't fix it, replace the impact free agents at ILB and DL with affordable options, and get better at Edge.

Free Agents: David Long, Nate Davis, Austin Hooper, Teair Tart (RFA), DeMarcus Walker, Aaron Brewer (RFA), Nick Westbrook-Ikhine (RFA), Geoff Swaim, AJ Moore, Dennis Daley, Lonnie Johnson, Dontrell Hilliard, Dylan Cole, Chris Conley, Terrance Mitchell, Mario Edwards, Trenton Cannon, LeRaven Clark, Corey Levin, Andrew Adams, Tarrell Basham, Joshua Dobbs, Joseph Jones, Davontae Harris, Greg Mabin, DaShawn Hand, Andre Smith, CJ Board, Daniel Munyer, Joshua Kalu, Kevin Strong, Cody Hollister, Naquan Jones (RFA)

Needs: LT, LG, RG, WR2, WR3, WR4, TE2, ILB, Edge3, NT, DL Depth, OL Depth, LB Depth

Cuts: Facing cap hell, the Titans released old stalwart Lewan, a number of high paid vets, to get under the cap.  In total, we released 13 players, freeing up 47 million, the second most in TCMD.

Taylor Lewan, Zach Cunningham, Randy Bullock, Robert Woods, Jamarco Jones, Chris Jackson, Tyler Shelvin, Jonathan Ward, Kevin Rader, John Leglue, Xavier Newman-Johnson, Jordan Roos, Mike Brown

Restructures: With very little cap space in 2023, but a ton in 2024, the Titans spread the cap hit for Tannehill and Byard, then avoided creating a need by doing the same with Dupree instead of cutting him.

Ryan Tannehill, Bud Dupree, Kevin Byard

Extensions: I wanted this to be a realistic free agency period, so I prioritized extending Jeffery Simmons, even though he's still under contract for 2023 and it negatively affected the cap.  He was extended on a 4 year, $86 million contract.

RFAs: Teair Tart, as a top DL, was the priority.  Signed as a UDFA, we were worried someone would get us in a bidding war, but he was resigned no problem.  Jones and NWI were prioritized as important depth pieces.

Teair Tart, Naquan Jones, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine

Trades: The Titans had few resources for trades, so the only trade was trading depth Edge Sam Okuayinonu to the Texans for LB Christian Kirksey.

Free Agency: We went in wanting to band aid each position group as much as possible, with the thinnest groups being the WR and OLs.  We also picked up a couple of released players for less.  The biggest signing, by far, was IOL Connor McGovern, with Austin Hooper, Shy Tuttle, and Prince Tega Wanogho being the other highish profile players.  DB and WR saw a significant number of depth players added to "raise the floor" of talent at those positions.

Connor McGovern, Prince Tega Wanogho, Austin Hooper, Josh Deguara, Byron Pringle, Zach Pascal, Tarrell Basham, Kevin Strong, Shy Tuttle, Dylan Cole, Joejuan Williams, Chris Jackson, Sidney Jones, Joshua Kalu, Andrew Adams, Morgan Cox

Draft: The Titans went into the draft desperately needing a left tackle, and a high pick on an offensive weapon.  Additional depth was needed at multiple OL positions and Edge.  The Titans traded down from 11 to 29, adding a 2024 first round pick, which will potentially be used securing a QB. We secured a WR1 candidate, a player at every OL position, a rotational Edge, and quality depth at TE.

1.11 2024 First Round Pick (Saints), 1.29 Jordan Addison, 2.35 Blake Freeland, 3.68 Byron Young, 4.108 Olusegun Oluwatimi, 5.149 Keaton Mitchell, 7.211 Davis Allen, 7.227 Anthony Bradford, 7.258 Tyler Lacy

Results: The Titans got out of cap hell successfully, and managed to clear enough cap space to sign free agents.  The WR group is vastly improved, especially in terms of depth.  No true WR1, but two young, talented first rounders will be enough.  TE also shows improved depth, and RB is complemented to avoid one-dimensionality.  OL is the biggest change, with upgrades at LT and LG, as well as getting younger at C, a quality swing tackle, and a potential RG of the future being brought in.  The holes were patched on defense, cheaply, and a new Edge3 will help the sting of an underperforming Bud Dupree.

Remaining Needs: CB is still potentially weak, but also very young, and may not be a weakness if younger players improve.  Future depth at DL is non-existent, but the current rotation is the strongest position group on the team, and one of the strongest in the league.  ILB has no real standouts, but is a deep group of contributors.  WR is completely unproven at the top, but talent is there.  QB is the question mark it always is, and this team will only go so far as Tanny (and maybe Malik Willis) can take it.

Cincinnati Bengals

Our offseason goals were to improve the pass protection from the O-line, re-sign as many of our free agents as we can, extend Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins, and Logan Wilson, and get more explosive at RB.

We managed most of those while not getting over extended on the cap. We did give up our first round pick in 2024.

At tackle, we traded up with the Patriots so we could draft Paris Johnson Jr. We have a high level of conviction that he'll be a very good NFL LT. We signed Kelvin Beachum and Cameron Fleming in free agency. Beachum is old but an upgrade from Lael Collins. We'll back him up with Jackson Carman, who played well in the playoffs but had struggled earlier in his career. If he plays well in 2023, he'll be Beachum's heir.

We signed Graham Glasgow for experienced depth inside. He might challenge Cordell Volson for the starting LG spot but can play C and both G positions.

We were able to keep all of our free agents that we expected. We knew Bates was gone and have Dax Hill ready as his replacement. Keeping Vonn Bell is important to Anarumo's defense and we sweated through a few rounds of free agency before re-signing him. Germaine Pratt was asking a high price and once we saw he had offers, he was gone as we weren't going to pay his 13 mil asking price. We made an offer to Tremaine Edmunds but Houston offered a good bit more so we filled the Pratt spot with Quincy Williams for about the same number he got in real life. The other free agent we lost was G Max Scharping whom we didn't offer a contract to. We were able to re-sign Samaje Perine, Hayden Hurst, Eli Apple, and a bunch of backup players. We added depth at TE with Robert Tonyan and Mycole Pruitt and at RB with Raheem Mostert and Rashaad Penny. We signed Dante Fowler as an edge rusher and added some secondary depth with Tashaun Gipson and Isiah Oliver. We had Tee Higgins on the trade block for a while so we signed Jake Kumerow as a big bodied receiver.

Capwise, we started about 34 mil under. We cut Joe Mixon and traded Lael Collins and Jonah Williams. Those moves added about 22 mil in space and we extended DJ Reader on a contract that cut his 2023 cap number by 5 mil. So we had plenty of money to spend. We're about 10 mil under the cap for the rule of 51 and have about 12 mil under the cap with our projected 53 man roster before signing a practice squad. We weren't able to extend Burrow as it turns out exercising the 5th year option blocked that. We did extend Tee Higgins for 6 years around 135 mil. Logan Wilson was asking a very high price on an extension so we put that off until next year.

All in all, we feel pretty good about our chances in 2024. The defense is mostly intact with some improved depth while the offense upgraded on the O-line and maybe at RB. Next offseason will probably focus on extending and re-signing our own players. Burrow, Wilson, maybe Chase will be coming off rookie deals. Vets like Hendrickson and maybe Awuzie will be in line for extensions too.

Off-season Overview:

Acquire a QB to build around: We were able to trade Derek Carr for a late pick which free'd up $30M in cap space for us to work with but also created a huge hole at QB. We had discussions with the Packers about Rodgers but ultimately decided to make a move for Mac Jones as it allowed us to keep a first round pick and gives us a young QB on a rookie deal that has familiarity with our new regime and offensive scheme. While we would've liked to get someone that was a clear upgrade over Carr, we felt Mac was the most cost effective solution for us and is someone that we can pivot off of easily if things don't go well.

• Rebuild the offensive line: After years of ignoring the offensive line we made it a priority to attack the position group early in free agency. We were able to acquire Isaiah Wynn (RT), Nate Davis (RG), Trai Turner (LG) in free agency who all are projected to start for us going into the season. In addition to three new starters we also knew that we needed versatile depth behind them and signed Justin Pugh (OG) and Jon Feliciano (G/C) who are two savvy veteran interior OL that can play multiple positions and have started a lot of games throughout their NFL careers. In the draft we were able to land Matthew Bergeron in the third who we like as an OG and will give a chance to push Turner for the starting LG spot as a rookie, but also think that he could potentially fill in at RT if needed. Later in the draft we were able to land Warren McClendon, who isn't a sexy pick by any means but we like him as a versatile backup that could potentially be our swing OT going forward.

• Revamp the defense at all three levels: One of our first priorities was to retain guys that played well for us last season to create some continuity on the unit and to help our new guys make the adjustment into the scheme. The players that we prioritized were Andrew Billings (NT), Rock Ya-Sin (CB), Denzel Perryman (LB), and Duron Harmon (S).

In addition to bringing those guys we knew that we needed to make a splash and DT has been a major position of need for years. With that in mind we decided to make a big traded and sent the #14 pick to Washington for Da'Ron Payne. Adding a disruptive player into the middle of our DL will ideally make things a lot easier on Crosby / Chandler and gives us two cornerstone DL to build around going forward. Depth on the defensive line has been an issue for us for years as well so we decided to bring back some familiar faces with Solomon Thomas, Jihad Ward, and Mario Edwards Jr. All three guys have been starters/rotational pieces elsewhere and we prioritized them for their versatility and ability to play on the edge or inside. Anthony Barr is another guy that we really liked as a SLB that can also potentially rotate in as a pass rusher in certain situations.

Our secondary was in desperate need of an overhaul as well and we were able to sign Byron Murphy / Jamaal Adams who both slot in as instant starters. Murphy was one of our main targets as a CB that can play inside/outside and we were surprised to see Adams on the market but jumped on the opportunity to sign the former All-Pro as we feel we have the personnel to allow him to play more in a box safety / hybrid LB role. We needed depth in the secondary as well so we signed Rayshawn Jenkins, Logan Ryan, and Anthony Brown, three more veteran DBs that can play in a couple different roles and have been starters on good defenses for years.

In the draft we were able to sign Drew Sanders who we project as a hybrid LB / edge player, similar to Clay Matthews. We were able to add some more depth on the edge with Yaya Diaby who's production and physical tools were too much to pass up on. Arguably our favorite pick was Marte Mapu who we plan to use more in a LB role but we love his versatility and ability to play safety in a pinch if needed. Brodric Martin was a nice late addition for as well and probably a PS player in year one as a massive NT that our DC has shown to have affinity for in the past.

Jacksonville Jaguars

bold = acquired via free agency                      underline = acquired via trade                  bold italic = retained free agent

bold underline = extended or restructured     * = acquired via trade & extended           bold italic underline  = draft picks (round-#)

Offense
QB: Trevor Lawrence | Gardner Minshew
WHY: Because he was a fun QB for the Jaguars and would be a good backup.

RB: Travis Etienne | Zach Charbonnet (3rd, 88th) | Snoop Conner | Mekhi Sargent | Melvin Gordon
WHY: Zach Charbonnet is a good to great compliment back to Travis Etienne. Sort of a LeVeon Bell + James Connor-y feel to this backfield without the drama. Melvin Gordon was a no cap impact signing.

WR: Keenan Allen | Zay Jones | Emeka Emzie | Seth Williams | Willie Johnson
WR: Calvin Ridley | Michael Wilson (5th, 164th) | Robbie Anderson | Jaylon Moore | Kendric Pryor
Slot: Christian Kirk
WHY: Christian Kirk got reworked to make cap space. Keenan Allen is a legit number one and signed for roughly 10mil. Michael Wilson has some of the sickest release moves in the draft class. Robbie Anderson is a fringe rosterable for about 1mil, but potential for a couple shots with his speed. Emzie was also competition and no cap impact signing.

TE: Luke Musgrave (2nd, 56th) | Maxx Williams | Dan Arnold | Luke Farrell | Gerrit Prince
WHY: I lost Evan Engram to FA so TE was a need. Maxx Williams is a good blocker, and Dan Arnold has TLaw chemistry. I drafted Musgrave in the second to add another receiving option in the mold of Zach Ertz for Doug Pederson.

LT: Cam Robinson | Walker Little
LG:  Ben Bartch | [Rodger Saffold] | Dillan Gibbons (7th, 228th)
OC: Luke Fortner | Tyler Shatley | Jimmy Murray
RG: Brandon Scherff | Rodger Saffold
RT: Jawaan Taylor | Brandon Parker
WHY: Reworked or extended Cam Robinson and definitely extended Scherff who took a little pay cut in his extension these moves made cap space. Rodger Saffold brings experienced depth to the guards, and rookie Gibbons is a longer shot prospect that I like his chances of making it as depth. Parker has proven to be okay depth at tackle, but returning Jawaan Taylor was a big win especially at his low cost compared to his IRL deal.

Defense:

IDL: Roy Robertson Harris | Jeremiah Ledbetter | LaBryan Ray
NT: Folorunso Fatukasi | DaVon Hamilton
IDL: Travon Walker | Kobie Turner (6th, 208th) | Nick Thurman
WHY: I cut Roy Robertson-Harris, and resigned him when his demands roughly met his IRL extension. LaBryan Ray was a roster filler addition. Folorunso got restructured for cap space. Kobie Turner was a late round addition to add depth to my IDL guys. He's great in the film room and has enough talent to make it, but is a clear rotation guy not a centerpiece.

EDGE: Josh Allen | Taco Charlton | Jordan Smith
LB: Foysade Oluokun | Sione Takitaki | Caleb Johnson
LB: Devin Lloyd | Chad Muma| Shaquille Quarterman
EDGE: Nolan Smith (1st, 25th ) | Klavon Chaisson | DeShaan Dixon
WHY: Sione Takitaki is depth and I feel like he did alright in CLE especially given his DC was a derp. Nolan Smith is probably my favorite prospect in this class, he's an amazing individual with great leadership abilities and fantastic athleticism. It's a shame Georgia rotated and had such depth and talent all over the defense that he didn't get to shine quite as much as he could have but two Champsionships isn't something to mourn. His injury was pectoral and not a huge red flag.

CB: Tyson Campbell | Jason Verrett | AJ Green | Chris Claybrooks
CB: Darious Williams | William Jackson III | Xavier Rhodes | Gregory Junior
Nickel: Kyu Blu Kelly (4th, 127th) |Tre Herndon | Montaric Brown
S: Andre Cisco | Ayo Oyelola | Mike Brown
S:  Ji’Ayir Brown (4th, 121st) | Deionte Thompson | Tyree Gillespie
WHY: Signed tons of corners to shotgun approach it. I got one in the draft I like in Kyu, but the FAs are has beens and injury risks (all roughly 1mil) and one guy I think could succeed if given a chance in AJ Green from the Browns.

K: James McCourt | Lucas Havrisik
P: Logan Cooke
LS: Ross Matiscik | Garrison Sanborn
WHY: the IRL starters are safe just filled some roster spots with cheap contracts.

_________
Draft
1.24 - Nolan Smith, EDGE Georgia
2.56 - Luke Musgrave, TE Oregon State
3.88 - Zach Charbonnet, RB UCLA
4.121 - Ji’Ayir Brown, S Penn State
4.127 - Kyu Blu Kelly, CB Stanford
5.164 - Michael Wilson, WR Stanford
6.208 - Kobie Turner, IDL Wake Forest
7.228 - Dillan Gibbons, LG Florida State
_________
Free Agency

Round 1:
- Got: Jawaan Taylor, Dan Arnold, Garner Minshew, Robbie Anderson
- Miss: Dalton Risner

Round 2:
- Got: Sione Takitaki, Tre Herndon, Maxx Williams
- Miss: Jerry Tillery, D'Ernest Johnson

Round 3:
- Got: Brandon Parker, William Jackson III, Rodger Saffold
- Miss: Chuck Clark

Round 4:

- Miss: Ndamukong Suh, Danny Shelton, Chris Harris Jr.

Round 5:
- Got: Roy Robertson Harris, Keenan Allen, AJ Green (CB), Xavier Rhodes
- Miss: Justin Pugh (withdrew a tied minimum bid)

I think Round 8?
- Got: Melvin Gordon for ~$870,000

Round 9 - 90 man roster uber cheap no cap impact deals
- Got: Emeka Emzie, WR; LaBryan Ray, IDL; Lucas Havrisik, K; Mike Brown, S

Trades:
EJ Perry + Kevin Austin + 208 -> 207
WHY: He wanted someone cut by the Jags he IRL signed with the Texans

Falcons (ovfd55) give:
164

Jaguars (Trojan) give
185 + 202
WHY: Trade up to secure Michael Wilson since Keenan Allen and Ridley are 1 year deals.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Objectives:

  • The obvious one was finding our QB of the future
  • Add one game changing presence to the defense
  • Insulate our new QB with talent to help him succeed

Preparations:

  • Extended DT DeForest Buckner and C Ryan Kelly to save the team some money against the current years cap. This gave us some flexibility to move up in the draft and still make moves in free agency to improve our roster.
  • Traded away WR Michael Pittman, a 3rd rounder this year, a 3rd rounder in 2024, plus #4 overall to move up to ** #1 overall **

Free Agency:

  1. S Jordan Poyer was the star of the show ($15,300,000 APY). Crafty veteran who prepares and reads the game about as well as anyone. On the back end behind D.Buckner and Shaq Leonard I think he's the piece that puts us over the top. His leadership and experience will help elevate the squad. Should be a top 5 defense in my opinion without a doubt.
  2. Edge Yannick Ngakoue ($6,000,000) I really like where Kwity Paye and Dayo Odeyingbo are headed going into 2023. But we needed a 3rd rusher to help take meaningful 3rd down snaps to create havoc and keep the group fresh. Made sure Yannick returned for 23.
  3. K Matt Gay ($3,900,000). Gives us a reliable Kicker who is comfortable from short or from distance. Of all FA's he's the most consistent in general as well as from 50+ over the last two years. So we weren't afraid to pony up. (Real life team broke a record for him 😉
  4. G Gabe Jackson ($1,507,500). He's a reliable G who has been consistent in this league almost a decade. He's our 2023 starter at RG.
  5. WR Noah Brown ($10,857,000) and Ashton Dulin ($2,650,000) add some playmakers to a group that is a little thinner after the necessary evil of moving on from Michael Pittman. Also WR/KR/PR Jakeem Grant >> More for special teams.
  6. Devin Singletary ($2,057,000) He's an RB I have always respected. He does a bit of everything well and can spell J.T. when necessary.
  7. DL Michael Brockers ($2,100,000) He was a late release and a late signing. But his veteran knowledge and skill adds some punch to our rotation. Still a quality plugger with something left to give our squad.
  8. OTs Dan Skipper, Matt Pryor, Isaiah Prince, and Dennis Daley to compete in camp for a roster spot or two.

DRAFT:

1.1 Bryce Young / QB / Alabama

2.1 Zay Flowers / WR / Boston College

4.4 Andrew Vorhees / G / USC

5.1 Roschon Johnson / RB / Texas

5.26 Asim Richards / OT / North Carolina

7.4 Alex Forsyth / C / Oregon

7.19 Tykee Smith / S / Georgia
