It should save your time looking for voidable contracts. Players will be removed from OTC roster on time (dates whenever they signed the contracts which are later than TCMD kickoff date). The only voided contracts I'm concerned about are the ones already listed in the OTC FA list. But will pull this list again after the season is over. JetsandI
I revisited the contract triggers calendar. Good News, a lot of them are prior March 7. Because of prorated bonus, players will remain on the roster as well as they will be on UFA list due to no base salary. Anyway, I totally forget about simple thing like descending sort function in the sheet. Just focus on Base Salary and move all players with $0 to UFA list. This should be much easier than using contract triggers list. About bidding, Is there any evidence that ALL teams actually signed at least UFA player? Average per team doesn't tell whole thing. I've loaded the Jets roster into the workbook for testing purposes. If I could some help double checking my formulas for the top 51 in cells K7:K8 as well as the formulas for cap values in columns T3:T6 and W3:W8. I'm still ironing out the details for including pending contracts, but as of right now the formulas mentioned above are calculating this data along with the draft picks contract amounts at the bottom of each roster sheet (ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TEN, ELEVEN). Not all of the sheets will be viewable once complete, but if you could skim the sheets and give me your opinion of the layout and design. sparky151
Regarding dead money on voided years, the teams fully expect to absorb that. They are using the fake years on the contract to push it into a future season, not expecting the player to repay it. Regarding the number of bidding slots, I think 3 per round for new players plus a resign plus the reserve bids is plenty. The difference between teams and rounds is who the targets are. Cap strapped teams start off looking for bargains or role fillers. Teams with lots of cap space bid on stars. As rounds go by and the overpriced players drop to more reasonable demands, they attract a market. So I think what we've been using works pretty well. Just seems like a lot of lost money if not able to resign. As you know these players have already been paid their signing bonus, so I just feel that there should be some benefit awarded to the original team so that they aren't **** out of luck. I'm fine with allowing these type of contracts to test the open market, like we discussed earlier. I'm thinking the yearly prorations could be included into the contract as they appear and then the GM could add additional signing bonuses if they wish. On top of this we provide the original team with an 8 to 10% or a percentage increase based on the amount they stand to lose if not resigned. This would be similar to how we currently do the resigning discount. Anyway, hit me up with any suggestions you've got for this. If anyone else has suggestions lets hear them. JetsandI
I am uncertain. One blog said once a player's team finished a season without extending his contract, all prorated bonuses in voidable years will be counted against current year's cap. Many articles said they should be counted against next year's cap. That may explain why there are plenty of due dates (trigger) right around new calendar year date. That allows teams to buy some time to extend player's voidable contract. Once a player becomes UFA dead money will be counted against a year's cap, no matter what it seems. Since you want to give GM some chance to extend contracts without dead money trap you can set up a deadline to extend players or not for salary cap purpose. Maybe in RFA's phase.
